I’m so excited to bring you today’s post- I’m going to show you what I learned about Oly-Fun! Ever heard of it?
From the Oly-Fun website:
“The everything material” This is one of the easiest, most versatile materials you will ever find. You can sew it, glue it, staple it, pin it or tie it. You can write on it, paint it, embellish it, stamp it or stencil it. You can scissor, rotary, or die cut it. You can use it as fabric or use it as paper. You can use it indoors and outdoors. The only thing it won’t do is fray, tear, or fade so don’t bother hemming it. Solid color throughout. Use both the front and back. No white core or back side. No Fraying. Easy sew, no hemming required. Water resistant. Ideal for a wide variety of indoor and outdoor uses. If you can make it in Felt, you can make it in Oly*Fun, but it will be more weather and water resistant with a more tailored look and feel. This is a great material for beginner sewing. There is no grain, no selvage, no sizing, and no fraying.”
And, after working with it, I can tell you that it is FUN. Imagine the flexibility and durability of fabric- you seriously cannot even rip Oly-Fun with your hands- but the disposability and properties of paper.
So let me show you what I mean!
Now for those photos…

Comes in 18 colors, and two forms- cut from a 60″ wide bolt at the fabric or box store, or in these grab-and-go packs that are 20″ by 3 yards.

So many colors to choose from, and water just beads right off.

You can cut it with scissors, craft blades, rotary cutters, thin rule dies, and steel rule dies.

I cut these samples with my Silhouette machine. I used a fabric blade and a fresh cutting mat. No stabilizer!

And it sews like a dream.

Since it’s water-resistant, it will be perfect for outdoor crafts and costumes!

Ginger likes it too!

Love the banner. This looks like some great stuff- thanks for the intro.
Looks like wonderful stuff. Colorful enough for those beautiful kusudama flowers. Good review!
have you tried sending it through the printer or is it too thick?
This could be cut to create a yarn for latch hook rug, crochet, knit, my mind is exploding. waterproof hats, sweaters, gloves, oh my.
Rose- it’s not too thick, however since it’s 100% poly, the ink wouldn’t really adhere to it. And it has a nubby texture. Not suitable for printing IMHO.
like the looks of this product. can I cut this through my cameo/
Yes- you might have noticed that that is the machine I used in my video.
Is it the material the grocery bags are made of? Those reusable kind? Many company’s use them and print their logo on them.
Pretty much
Have you tried inkjet or laser printing. While Inkjet doesn’t seem a good fit I’ve seen worse material work.
If acrylic paint will work on it, printer ink should too.
Do you know if ply-fun is machine washable? And, if it is, how many washings it could handle? Thanks.
Well, it’s a plastic. So launderable- kind of. But it’s more effective to wipe it down.
