Yesterday I shared how I make my Peek-A-Boo Gift Tags for the hostess gifts that I’m giving this year, and I got a request for the recipe for the Coconut Oil Sugar Scrub- so you here go! And you know what? You can make this in under an hour!
I’ve had my Dad, Mom, and daughter all try this scrub and we ALL agree that it leaves your ands very soft and barely scented. With our harsh Ohio winters and the nature of chapped hands, this is an excellent way to care for your hands. And if you are busy in the kitchen chopping and prepping, this will remove some of those odors from your hands.
I have two variations; one is the “Hand Therapy” version and another is a Foot Scrub. It’s simple basic formula, then you can customize as you will.
(Note: these are affiliate links and if you make a purchase you are enabling me to make more cool tutorials for you!)
“Hand Therapy” Coconut Lime Sugar Scrub:
- 2 c. granulated sugar
- 1 c. Medium-High Heat Organic Coconut Oil
- 1 TBSP Vitamin E Body Oil
- 6 drops Coconut Cream Fragrance Oil –
you can also add more or less fragrance oil depending on what you like
- 6 drops Lime Essential Oil
again, this depends on what you like
- juice of 1/2 lime
- zest of one lime
You simple put the coconut oil into a large micro-wave safe container heat for 25-35 seconds or until melted to a liquid state. Stir in your oils, 1/2 the zest, and juice. Then add the sugar and mix well. Spoon into jars (I got mine from the Dollar Store) and sprinkle the remaining zest on top. (I also add one more drop of Lime Oil to the very top!) It will cool and harden somewhat. Then just add a metallic elastic to the top to hold a cute wooden scoop. You can see the link for that below.
This will make two 1-cup batches (as shown above) or you can use a 4-oz jelly jar and get four 1/2 pints out of this batch.
Directions for use of the Hand Therapy Scrub: Using warm water, use a 1/2 scoop and massage into hands, rubbing so that the sugar does it’s job exfoliating. Before rinsing, add a pea-sized amount of liquid hand soap to help the excess oil wash away. Blot hands gently with a soft towel and use your favorite hand cream, if desired.
For those of us who like soft feet- we have a scrub for you, too!
Fancy Foot Coconut Sugar Scrub:
- 2 c. granulated sugar
- 1 c. Medium-High Heat Organic Coconut Oil
- 1 TBSP Vitamin E Body Oil
- 6 drops Eucalyptus
![]()
- 6 drops Peppermint Oil
.
- If you were using this to help manage “foot funk” you could also add a few drops of Tea Tree oil
for it’s anit-macrobial properties.
Put the coconut oil into a large micro-wave safe container heat for 25-35 seconds or until melted to a liquid state. Stir in your oils, add sugar, and mix well. Spoon into jars and dd one more drop of Eucalyptus to the very top. It will cool and harden somewhat. Then just add a metallic elastic to the top to hold a cute wooden scoop with a gift tag.
This will make two 1-cup batches (as shown above) or you can use a 4-oz jelly jar and get four 1/2 pints out of this batch.
I don’t recommend you use these in the shower- the oil can make the shower floor slick and no one wants to take a trip to the hospital using your products, OK?
I hope you enjoy this- I have made a little Printable (Apple iCloud Pages) of the 2-inch square print-outs I used for my Peek A Boo tags. You can use it if you like. I’ve also got it here as a PDF.
