World Card Making Day- October 6! (And a Giveaway)

October 5, 2012

Ok, I’ll be honest- I didn’t even KNOW that there was a World Card Making Day! But there is, and I’ve been cranking out cards like it’s my JOB for OperationWrite Home (see my original post on my card making party here.)  So I thought I’d share some happy card-making inspiration with you today. Plus, you can do a good deed or two or three AND have a chance to win some goodies. FIRST, let’s talk about World Card Making Day. (Snagged from the website.)

World Card Making Day began in 2006 as National Card Making Day. Founded by Paper Crafts magazine to bring card makers together at the beginning of the busiest card-making season of the year, it was first held on October 7, 2006. The initial celebration involved the Paper Crafts magazine audience only; however, due to the positive response it received and the worldwide popularity of card making, the holiday became known as World Card Making Day from then on. Celebrating its seventh year in 2012, World Card Making Day is celebrated annually on the first Saturday in October. It’s a day for the card-making community—hobbyists, retailers, and manufacturers—to unite and celebrate the connection and creativity that is the heart of card making. Join us in the fun onOctober 6, for World Card Making Day 2012!

There is also a ton of samples on the website to get you going, if you need some inspiration. And of course, they also are sponsoring a contest. You have to make a card and send it to them (no, you will not get it back) and they will choose  TWENTY winners to receive a ridiculous pile of loot. You can read all of the details here. (But don’t go away, I’ve got more to tell you. Plus my own giveaway. K?)   Operation Write Home is also celebrating World Card Making Day with their own blog hop– so there will be tons of inspiration. (And you can set holiday-themed card in to them until October 31st if they are stamped and tucked. You can see all of the deadlines here and  the guidelines for cards here.  I’ve been busybusybusy making cards from some wonderful EK Success Brands products (JoLee’s, K & Company, EK Tools) and have been using ribbons from May Arts Ribbons. But let me SHOW you in this little video, K? Now, some folks have let  me know that the videos won’t render on slow connections, so here are some still photos for you to see.

This set features some amazing JoLee’s Boutitque stickers and May Arts Ribbon. So simple but impactful, no? (PS- I like the ones with the embossed fronts better.)

This set uses JoLee’s stickers and beautiful patterned papers from K & Company. I found some vellum stickers in my stash for the sentiments.

Here I used some K & Company Paper and coordinating K & Company 3-D stickers (the cardinals.) I think they are pretty classic, and the May Arts ribbon just sets it off.

K & Company Paper and 3-D Stickers.

More K & Company Paper and 3-d stickers. SO EASY!

Mixin’ it up a bit. More May Arts RIbbon!

Amazing JoLee’s Boutique 3-D Stickers. It makes is so easy to pair with some pretty paper- (and I used my Martha Stewart Crafts punches on these, too.) DONE.

So…are you inspired yet? I’m going to give away a box of cardmaking goodies to one of you lucky folks! I’m tucking in 6X6 paper from K & Company, some JoLee’s Stickers, some May Arts Ribbon, assorted buttons/brads gew-gas, envelopes, and an Operation Write Home Stamp so you can make a few for the troops, too!  Ready to enter? Just use the RaffleCopter widget (or follow the link) below. You’ll get the opportunity for multiple chances to win, including a daily tweeting option. Have fun, good luck, and make sure you clicky-click around on some of the links in this post to visit some of these great cardmaking resources. Happy WCMD!

Love to do Christmas cards! I put together card making kits every year for the clients I work with and teach them some paper crafting techniques, they make 3-5 cards to send to the troops and then they get to keep all the rest that they make for their own loved ones. LOVE this process, would love to win these supplies to add to this year’s offerings!

There isn’t one occasion. I like to make cards for friends and acquaintances who are going through a tough time or are facing challenges. The digital world is great but for me, there’s nothing better than getting a card in the mail. You don’t have to ‘pay it’ or ‘toss it’. I especially think hand made cards let people know you really care about them.
