My name is Linda Gorman and I am so excited to be doing some reviews for CraftTestDummies!
Today I am going to check out Kuretake Zig Wink of Luna Brush Pens. These are similar to the Kuretake Zig Wink of Stella Brush Pens except the Wink of Luna have a metallic pigment instead of a glitter pigment.
The Wink of Luna Brush Pens are a real brush marker with a metallic water-based pigment. The brush tip allows you to make thick and thin lines.
On the back of each brush pen are directions on getting the pen started. Each pen comes with a black ring between the top and bottom of the pen.
Remove the black ring and re-twist the pen nib back into the cartridge by twisting to the left.
After you hear a click, take the cap off, hold the brush downward, and gently squeeze the barrel until you see the ink flow into the brush.
I tried the brushes on a variety of surfaces and found they worked well on most of them. On white cardstock, the pens wrote smoothly with an opaque and shimmery color. On black cardstock, the color came through but the metallic finish was not as shimmery.
Let’s take a look at the samples. Jenny made the video with the paper samples and card I made:
And now a closer look at the samples!
As you can see the pens worked well on all surfaces that I tried . I did find that since they are water-based a few of the colors reactivated slightly when I added water to them. After drying on the acrylic circle, I could chip them off but they did not rub off with my finger unless I rubbed very hard. I turned the circle over and placed a decorative paper on the back. The brushes were opaque on all these surfaces, but lost a lot of their metallic shimmer unless they were on paper. The colors looked great on the vellum and did not rub off.
I made a card and a tag coloring using the Wink of Luna Brush Pens. For the card, I used a piece of 140# watercolor paper. I stamped and embossed the mouse on the card. I then outlined the mouse with the silver pen and used a water brush to fill the image in.
For the tag, I also stamped and embossed the mouse on the tag. I then colored it in with the silver Wink of Luna Pen. It doesn’t show up well in the picture, but the metallic silver really stands out on the mouse.
I just have a few words of caution in regards to the pens. After you open the brushes make sure when you use them again, that you leave the top on while you are shaking the pen or else it could splatter all over. Believe me, I speak from experience!
Also, the pens should be stored upright after you have opened them. The tops of the pens are color coded, so you will always know that they are upright and what color they are.
I think the pens are a good addition to any crafter’s supplies. I was very impressed with their ease of use, the colors, and how they added shine to my projects. If you have any questions, please feel free to leave a comment below. Thank you.
HAVE A FUN, CRAFTY DAY!!!

My wink of stella pens state to store them lying down. Wonder what makes it different for these to be stored upright.

Great review. You managed to cover it all including the “bleeding” of the colors. I’m convinced. Looks like a good purchase. Thanks. Nice job.
