Watercolor painting is one of those things that ebbs and flows (pun intended) in crafting. It is as easy as adding water to a paint pan and smooshing it around…but for more professional (or tidy) results, it can be tricky and intimidating to some. And there is always the question of what paints are actually GOOD.
This last question, at least, was partially covered by Jennifer McGuire. If you don’t know her work, she is primarily a card designer with an amazing array of techniques and product knowledge up her sleeves. Today I’m sharing her watercoloring comparison video with you and I’ll be following up with a few of my own.
I also want to point you to my Kuretake Gansai Tambi watercolor review and video, too:
And if you are STILL interested in yet another overview of watercolors, I did a little comparison of travel watercolor kits a while ago. Obviously, I need to include the Peerless paints in an updated version!
I’m increasingly entranced with watercolors for my journals and cards.
How about you? Do you like watercolors? Is there something that keeps you from trying or using them in your crafting? I’d love to hear from you.

Thank you for the review. I just bought the peerless at a craft show. I did not see any information about the watercolor classes you mentioned. Where do I find out about it.

Over the last few months I have become totally obsessed with watercoloring and LOVELOVELOVE it! I have a few different brands of watercolors and find that I really LOVE the look of Yasutomo Pearlescent watercolors. I won a set of the Spectrum Aqua markers and even though there is a slight learning curve with the I am starting to really like those also. I adore using my distress inks to watercolor, water color pencils by Faber Castell are also a good medium to use. Waiting on a shipment of the Prima watercolor pencils so I can give them a try too.
I won a class on “Texture on Landscapes in Watercolor” from the Inspiration Place and it starts on April 13th! SOOOOOO excited to learn from Miriam!
If you haven’t tried watercoloring I highly recommend that you get a cheap set of watercolor paints and give it a try! It really is quite fun and the results can be quite amazing!
Thanks for the great review videos and I really want to try the Peerless watercolors but have to recover from my recent purchases before I can!

I enjoy doing water coloring. I often use Distress ink to do coloring, too. I’ve noticed that many of the top crafters, including Jennifer McGuire, are now using the ones that you reviewed. Although they often still use the Peerless colors when traveling.
I have water colors from my art class days that are actually in tubes. I figured I’d use those up before buying more. I did take onlinecardclass.com’s water color class and it provided great inspiration for beginners and then advanced techniques. I was thinking I should go back and review it soon to practice the techniques some more.
