Making Craft Videos for YouTube

December 19, 2014

Ok, so this is a little off the topic of crafts. But I’ve been getting questions as to how I set up my space to film tutorials for YouTube, so I wanted to pull back the curtain so to speak and share my video set up for you.How I film my videos! Peek to see the tools I use to create my YouTube content.

Of course, I did this by making….  a video! Hop down to see the links to the products I use.

The links are in a grey Amazon Widget- give the box a minute to load AND make sure you don’t have Adblocker enabled.

Handy Affiliate Links:

First– I think THIS is the closest to my original boom arm- it’s from B&G:

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/358106-REG/Photek_TRIX_2500_TRI_X_2500_The_Tripod_Extender.html

As you can see, this is a spendy  business. So everytime you sit through the ads on YouTube or click a link on my site, you are actually helping me invest in the tools I need to create more FREE videos and posts for YOU! Thank you!

Just let me know if you have any questions!

I am not seeing the links to the products you talked about in the video. I am on a mobile device but I reloaded and still not seeing it. I am nterested in knowing where you got the tripod with the boom and the backdrop.
    Thanks!
    Deb

Tammy- It’s a grey box under the video that says “Film Essentials.” It takes a minute to load but it comes up for me on both mobile and m laptop.

Deb- can you see the grey Amazon widget? It’s all in there. 🙂

OK I am on a laptop but I see no grey box under the video that say Film Essentials nor do I see an amazon widget. I do see share this, pinterest, fb etc. and a more button that says reddit and tumbler. Right straight under the video box I see the words Handy Affliiliate links but that’s it. I am going to look at a few more vid’s to see if it shows up n them. Thanks. Will keep looking.

LOL it shows up on my Ipad perfect. So now it makes me wonder if it’s a pop up blocker I have. Will have to investigate.

OK AdBlock was stopping it from showing up. So when I paused adblock and refreshed the site it came up perfect. Hope someone else finds this useful.

    Hi Jenny,
Question! I am sure many of us would like to do everything possible to support your site. Does just clicking on the links help you, or do we need to purchase the items? Thanks for all the great videos!

Thanks, Tammy—I had the same problem: Adblocker. Now that I’ve fixed that, I can see the links!

Laura- first, THANK YOU and thank you for asking. If there are ads at the top or side bar, often a click will generate me a few pennies. If you click through an Amazon link or ad, a portion of your PURCHASE will come back to me- usually 5% or so. And if you are on YouTube if you let the whole ad play at the beginning I will make a few pennies also. It’s a mix of ads, affiliate links, and paid content that keep my site running. I wrote a whole post about how I make money blogging if you are interested: http://www.crafttestdummies.com/commentary/thoughts-fair-compensation-make-money/ It’s targeted toward working with brands, but I do feel it’s only fair to disclose to my audience (folks like you) how I work with brands and what I receive monetarily.

You are very welcome but I really felt bad for posting so many times. But I figured if it happened to me it would most likely happen to someone else. Glad I could help you. And it shows me a bunch of other ads and stuff to.

    Hi Jenny,
Thank you for explaining how the links help you maintain your awesome site! If every one of us who follows your blog clicks away at those links or watches the youtube ads before getting to your tutorials, we can help keep you going for just a few seconds of our time. I hope the pennies add up and now that I know what the ads do for you I am more likely to click on them myself. Thanks for the link to your blogging article, too!

Hi Jenny – Just wanted to note that I believe the arm you are using on your tripod is different from the one listed in the product listings. I am fairly sure yours is a the Manfretto with the balljoint at the end, not the Alzo, which is just the arm, correct?

Thanks for your super reviews! Hope you are having fun at CHA!!

I would love to find something that is strong enough to hold my Nikon5200 that is not so expensive. If anyone has a suggestion please let me know. Thanks

Candice Schwark, I was wondering the same thing. I’ve researched online and it looks like the Photek Tripod Extender, which INCLUDES the ball head, and is telescoping, much better than the Alzo option. They are $80 online, here is the link to B&H’s website: http://tinyurl.com/jogs4y9

Mine is an Alzo, but the model I used was not listed. Julie, this one is pretty much exactly what I have except mine is not weighted. I have to use a bungee cord at the end to help stabilize it!
