In a sudden and somewhat shocking announcement today, Ranger Ink and Tim Holtz issued a press release announcing that Tim will not longer serve as the Creative Director for the company.
From the release:
We are excited to continue working with Tim on the Distress and Alcohol Ink lines as a manufacturer, distributer, and worldwide marketing partner. Our customers will see no changes to our products and we will continue to offer the same great service behind Tim’s product lines with Ranger.
Tim Holtz has served as the Director of Education and most recently the Creative Director of Ranger Ink for the past 14 years. On October 3rd at 1 AM, he posted the same press release– with the tile of “The Journey Continues.” However, what was conspicuously absent was any addition information, thoughts, comments or reassurance to his huge fanbase.
One can only speculate the reason for his stepping back from such a prominent role. Could it have been creative differences with other Ranger designers? Tim’s increasing popularity and need to branch out/expand roles with other companies? Personally, I’m likely to think the latter. We will just have to wait to see what surprises might come next!
Either way, we certainly will expect continued great things from both Tim AND Ranger Ink.

What a shock! I hope this means he will branch out a bit!

Why would you think ‘Could it have been creative differences with other Ranger designers?’
Dorothy says
My heart skipped a few beats when I first read this! But now that I’ve thought about it, I would like to believe it will be a good thing in the long run. This should allow Tim to offer more diverse products and open up a whole new world of great products. I wish nothing but the best for both Ranger and Tim Holtz, and I look forward to seeing what creative things are in store for us all.

Hi, I don’t have many T H’s products , mini ink pads, pens, have wanted to get more but short of funds. Sorry to hear of his stepping down.
Jenny says
Tim has a very specific style that is not exactly in line with some of the other designers (think bright happy colors and painterly looks) and if you are the Creative Director, personal styles could clash. I personally wonder why a Signature Designer would be the Creative Director at all. Kind of like how the conductor of the orchestra isn’t responsible for playing and instrument, but rather directing the creative endeavors of all. : )

I agree, Jenny…Hope that Tim has decided on another venue for his nearly unlimited talents.
