Yesterday was an amazing day for me personally and professionally- I got to attend The Martha Stewart Show. It was a special “Craft Show” I was invited to attend the live broadcast so that I could share all the crafty goodness with you.
The whole experience was rather surreal. I came into NYC on Tuesday night to meet up with some crafty bloggers and friends, so I stayed right around the corner from the MSLO offices.
I got up early, put my pink frilly flower on, and walked over to the studio. I got there right at 9AM and there was already a line.
We got our tickets and filed into the holding room. We filled out our paper work and Joey “warmed us up.” Basically, he showed us hand motions to cue applause, “oooohhhs” and “aaaaahhhs”, etc. They were really strict with the audience that there was to be no photography whatsoever….but we crafty bloggers got to take photos in the commercial breaks AND got special internet access!
I was able to hold a TweetChat Event with ConsumerCrafts– of you’ve never heard of that, it’s an event on Twitter where you set up a hashtag (the number sign -#) and everyone comments/tweets in real time. (I’ll post the archive of that soon.)
So they led us up to the studio, got us settled in. We were all in a special section, and I got to sit right next to Grace Bonney of DesignSponge. Filling out the section were the CraftCritique crew, gals from Craft and Make, and AisleDash. It was an honor to be in such illustrious company!
The set was amazing, all decked out in shades of aqua, salmon, pink, and beige. Direction in the center is the Craft set, the kitchen is off to the left, an then greenhouse is off to the right.
Martha took the set and things got serious. She greeted everyone and the cued us to stay quiet.
Side note on Martha. She is so graceful. I mean, I don’t get star-struck, but she has such an amazing sense of carriage- it must be her early model years- that you are kind of in awe of her. Martha has that sense that nothing would faze her. Completely in control and absolutely unflappable.
One the show started, it was a frenzy of watching the show- (I really wanted to take it all in), sending out tweets, posting to Facebook, and then trying to get a few photos in during the commercial breaks!! The hour just flew by!
Soon, though it was the end of the show and we were invited to stand and share the name of our blog. I was so excited to be able to be seen onscreen and announce my blog to her audience. (I got a lot of flack from my son because they passed around the mic AFTER my turn. Boo.) Just when we thought it couldn’t get any better, we were invited to step onto the set and take pictures with Martha! So yes, now I can say that I have met Martha Stewart. *Swoon.*
Make sure you check out the site for all the links to the various crafts and giveaways that were featured that day. Lucky us, we got an amazing swag bag filled with tools, felt, Martha Stewart Craft products, the Encyclopedia of Crafts, and more!
Wow. Overwhelming, amazing, fun, frenzied. I’ll have more news of my trip to NYC in upcoming posts- I got to visit the Etsy HQ and meet a NY-based craft blogger. Stay tuned!

So exciting, Jenny! You looked great and I heard your website name, even though you didn’t have a microphone. Now that you guys are cozy with Martha, I hope you can convince her team to produce a 1/2 hour all craft and sewing show for the Hallmark Network!

Awesome! What a cool event to be able to attend Jenny. Just to be there in all that crafty energy must have been incredible. I agree with everyone, you looked fantastic… and so did your Big Pink Frilly Pin! Looking forward to hearing more about the show.

What an amazing opportunity! I can’t believe you were able to hold a tweet chat after that. I would have been giddy with energy after the taping.
Jenny says
Cindy- thanks for your kind words..but that’s all I’ve got to share about the show… and Condo Blues- I did the TweetChat DURING the show…my hands were a little shaky!
