Plaid Booth Tour & Demos at CHA 2016

Steve, Vicki and Jenny!

One of my favorite booths at CHA show is Plaid. You might not think “Plaid” when you think of super-brands like Mod Podge, Martha Stewart Crafts, Bucilla Needlearts, or Handmade Charlotte, but Plaid Crafts is behind them all! Let me show you some of the highlights from the booth! First, I say Cathie Filian and Steve Piacenza giving a demo on the Photo Transfer Medium:  Get yours here! (affiliate link) We also had a quick photo op with Vicki O’Dell! […]

Mod Podge Mod Melter by Plaid

Mod Podge Mod Melter

Disclosure: sample provided for review, but all opinions are my own and based on my first-hand experience with the product. Back at the CHA show in January 2015, the Plaid booth was all abuzz with Cathie and Steve and their new tool for the Mod Podge line, the Mod Melter. The Mod Melter dovetails with their other products, specifically the Mod Melts and Mod Molds– which we’ve reviewed on here already. So let’s dive in! From Plaid: The Mod Melter […]

Craft Product Review: Mod Podge Furniture in 3 Finishes

Mod Podge Furniture is a new formula in a line of recent releases. It comes in three finishes, gloss, matte, and satin. It can be used to decoupage and seal decorations (paper and fabric) onto furniture pieces. It can be applied in the same way as other Mod Podge formulas, but must cure for 4 weeks before the furniture piece can be regularly used. For this review, I’m going to compare the different finishes to those of the general use […]

Craft Product Review: Mod Podge Dishwasher Safe Gloss

This Mod Podge Dishwasher Safe Gloss is a new formula in a line of recent releases. It is only available in a gloss finish. It can be used to decoupage and seal decorations onto glass, ceramic, and metal pieces. These pieces are then “top-rack dishwasher safe”.  There are some special instructions for multiple coats, applying decorations, and drying. The finished object must cure for 28 days before it can be washed in the dishwasher, only on the top-rack. I’ll assume that since […]

Mod Podge Photo Transfer Medium

photo transfer candle

I’m a mixed media artist, and I often use photo transfers in my work. I was excited to put “Mod Podge Photo Transfer medium” to the test. The first thing I noticed is that this medium is white in the bottle and dries white as well. My preferred products for mixed media photo transfer are initially white but dry clear, and allow me to layer to my heart’s content. I shifted gears when I realized that this product was […]

Cool2Cast Product Review

When Jenny asked me if I was up for trying out Cool 2 Cast, I thought it sounded like fun. I’m always up for trying new things. Cool2Cast has been on the market for a couple years, but it is new to me. Although I’m a big fan of fabric, my hot glue gun is never put away for too long, and I like trying new media all the time. Cool2Cast sounded like a great way for me to try […]

Craft Countdown with Amy Anderson

Mod Podge Amy

My name is Amy. I am a 36-year-old crafty gal who has lived all over the country (a lot in the Northwest) and finally ended up in Atlanta. I was born from creative genes, so I’m carrying on the tradition. I have been knitting for 18 years, sewing for longer and decoupaging for just a few. I do all of these things on a daily basis, or at least as much as I can. In addition to Mod Podge, […]

Product Review- Mod Podge One-Step Crackle Medium

Mod Podge One-Step Crackle Medium I am so excited to be giving you my very first review here on CTD and I’m elated to be a part of this amazing team. Hi everyone, Erika Taylor here today with a review of the Mod Podge one-Step Crackle Medium. Being a medium junkie, when I received this product in my box of goodies from CTD, I knew it would be my first review. I’ve used many different crackle mediums before and dug […]

Craft Product Review: Brushstroke Mod Podge by Plaid

Next up in our testing of the new Mod Podge formulas is Brushstroke Mod Podge.  The Plaid website indicates that: Mod Podge ® Brushstroke creates a highly textured finish that resembles hand painting. Apply over posters, prints or to decoupaged canvas projects for an artistic look that’s an affordable alternative to genuine painted wall art. Non-yellowing, dries clear. Certified AP non-toxic; waterbase. The first thing I noticed when I opened the bottle was that the Brushstroke product was much thicker […]

Canvas Art Using the Cricut & Mod Podge

I love some of the nursery and kid’s room art I see in some of the high-end home decor catalogs. But then I see the price tag and quickly flip the page. But I got to thinking that my Cricut has some great artwork, and I’ve got a canvas on hand, and some Mod Podge….well, this came together in about 2 hours and took only about $15 in consumable materials! Now, I used the cartridges I had on hand for […]

Recycle Craft: Suitcase Shrines

partyresinwax 046

This is the most amazing idea ever, and I can say that because it isn’t MINE.  Let this sink in a minute: Decoupaged Suitcase Shrines. Yeah. My friend E is a Roller Derby gal and is also the league historian- and she chose to commemorate the 5th anniversary by making a traveling exhibit out of discarded suitcases. What makes the idea brilliant is that she can set up the suitcases  and literally pack the shirts, skates, and other 3-D memorabilia in them- […]

MPO is very very thick!

I wish there was a Mod Podge for that!” Well, my dearies, the Mod Podge fairy has heeded your call and YES, there is a Mod Podge for that! Enter Mod Podge “Outdoor.” Over the past few days I’ve written reviews of classic Mod Podge, Mod Podge Shimmer, and Mod Podge Glitter. Yes, indeed, there are […]

Craft Product Review: Mod Podge GLITTER!

mpglitter 001

Um, OK. So in the past few days I’ve shared my unabashed love for Mod Podge (satin and glossy), shared my new appreciation for Mod Podge Shimmer and now….buckle your seat belt…there’s GLITTER MP, too! It has a lot in common with it’s other Mod Podge bretheren. Just to recap: It’s a glue, a finish, and a sealer It has a mild, distinctive odor. Has a tendency to show brushmarks. (Use a sponge-type brush to help this.) Has the viscosity […]

Craft Product Review: Mod Podge Shimmer

Silver Mod Podge Shimmer on a faux pumpkin...

Ok, so yesterday you read my love-note to Mod Podge. But did you know that Mod Podge comes in other formulations?? Well, it does, and today we’re going to talk about Mod Podge Shimmer!  It come in both GOLD and SILVER, and will really transform how you look at good-old MP! First, let’s talk about the way MP Shimmer is the same: It’s a glue, a finish, and a sealer It has a mild, distinctive odor. Has a tendency to […]

Matte vs Glossy finish

This is a version of a post I put up at, but with my special “CraftTestDummies” touch for you! Mod Podge is a true crafting staple, and every crafters’ closet should have a bottle or two. This miracle 3-in-one product is a glue, sealer, and finish, all in one bottle. What’s more, you have a choice of finishes: gloss, satin, and even sparkle and fabric versions! So here’s what you should know about Mod Podge: It’s a glue. You […]

Recycled Zipper Pulls and Luggage Tags

It’s a new school year and new backpacks and jackets have been purchased- but it’s only a matter of time before my kids yank the pulls right off of the zippers! So I’m getting the jump on repairs by making some fun, recycled ones that the kids can personalize. We’re building the base on an unlikely substrait- Formica samples from the home improvement store! You can pick a few up the next time you’re there, and if you ask nicely, […]

Mod Podge BooBoo Box, Part Two!

The "Original" Boo-Boo Box

OK, so I decided to share my “original” Boo Boo Box- the one I made about 5 years ago when my little guy was still little! This one isn’t as fancy as the one I shared yesterday, but it gave me the idea. The “Original” was made from mostly recycled materials- a  cardboard box that I salvaged was decoupaged with left-over Christmas tissue paper. I then sponge-painted some gold paint & drew over it with a silver Sharpie to make […]

How-To: Mod Podged “Boo-Boo Box”

Boo Boo Box

Here’s a sweet little decoupage craft that is right in time for the summer- after all, summer at our house means bike rides, sports, outdoor play…and boo-boos! You can use any cardboard box you might have saved from the trash or a paper mache purse from the craft store. Everyone needs a boo-boo box at hand for little emergencies! So, here’s what I did: I took some pretty scrapbook paper and cut the following: 2 pieces for the top and […]
