Most of you know that I love, love, love Sally Jean…. her artwork is fun and whimsical, and her soldering is top-notch. I had a pretty good month in July, and I actually made some cash from teaching my craft classes. So I bought myself a little somthing pretty, of course!

This is what she calls her “knockers” (har, har!)- two sides of an acrylic hemisphere with artwork captured inside. What’s fun about these is that you get to choose what goes in. I really wanted one of the larger, flat pieces, but they were sold out. And I really liked this artwork, so I compromised.

The text on the front says, “Create” and the text on the back says, “Sometimes there was a storm in her brain.”

I can totally relate to this feeling!!!!

I’m going to add a decorative jumpring (so that it hangs right) and maybe wire up some Swarovskis to make a little dangle or something. Can’t wait to wear it!

Well, I was the April Fool yesterday – I had a class scheduled at Grand River Beads and didn’t even remember it! Fortunately, Eva is the best and pulled me back to earth. I was honored to have 2 class participants yesterday: Dawn, a dear friend and former colleague, and Kathy, a new kindred spirit.

We had a blast making our Lady Madonnas. Each one turned out so differently! Here’s a quick peek of our results.

Thanks so much to Eva, Dawn, and Kathy for enabling me to do what I love.

I’m gearing up for my favorite green holiday, St. Patrick’s Day. Since my birthday is only 3 days later, it’s been something of an extended holiday for me. (BTW, Earth Day comes in second as my favorite green holiday. Sorry.)

Anyhoo, I always celebrate with cards for the family, dressing up the kids, sometimes even hitting the parade if the weather isn’t too crappy. I decided to try that new metal-leafing technique and make a batch o’ goodies.

I ended up making enough of the shamrock pieces for an army. (I get carried away, you know!) Some are pins, some are just flats to be glued onto cards, made into magnets, whatever. And look at those luscious cabs!!! Yum, yum, yum!

If you’d like to purchase one, just leave me a comment and I’ll get back to you. And maybe they’ll even make it to Etsy. We’ll see!

OH! And a PS… this is my first batch using Fimo Deco Gel instead of TLS…. product review forthcoming!

So I figure I have to learn what to do with them!

I’m so glad I took the class. I’d seen some tutorials online, but there’s no way I’d have gotten the bale to turn out if I hadn’t seen someone else do it first.

So… whaddaya think? Personally, I was pretty happy. Can’t wait to try again!

I’m teaching the paper-bead making class at both Grand River Beads and Stamplistic, so I thought I should work up some more paper bead jewelry ideas. Got simmering in my Somerset juices, and came up with this:

Paper Bead Angel Pin

I wired up some sheet music beads (you can even see lyrics on some of them) and pulled out the poetry tile I had in my stash. I used some Pinata alcohol inks on it to made it match the beads better. I added some metal wings and glass beads.

OK, so now you know I’m on a bit of a paper bead kick. And it’s working out for me, too….I’m going to be teaching a class at Grand River Beads in March. (See my “Calendar and Events” tab for all of my scheduled classes.)

I’m a big fan of trying to stretch your creative muscles, so one of my favorite self-challenges is “Make 3 Things.” Whether it’s using a product or technique, I think it’s important to use or do it a number of times to both explore the medium/process and to try to think outside of the box.

So I wanted to make 3 things with paper beads…. now, they are all jewelry items, but I’ll be working on that next. Anyhoo, this is what I’ve come up with. Today.
