Painted Pendants of Polymer Clay
Posted on 13. May, 2008 by Jenny in Polymer Clay
I’ve been working on some enamel-like effects on polymer clay pendants, and I made these a few weeks ago. I love Lumiere paints- they are acrylics with mica powders in them, which make them metallic and shimmery.
However, I had problems with them bubbling when I went to heat-set the glaze on top. Maybe I need to sand down the polymer bases so that the paints adhere better. I almost think that this technique won’t work for a class setting, there is too much drying time involved. But if I use tinted liquid polymer clay, we speed up the process alot.
Anyway, here’s two versions of the picture, one with flash, and one without:
I’m very proud of myself. I got over my fear of my Dremel, and now I can just make a pendant and worry about making holes afterward. Yay for me!
I think I’m going to finish the big green/coppery one. The rest will probably be abandoned.
The next question is: what to do with my abandoned/orphaned beads????

Anything but jewelry, I will love!
Just send me your addy in a email and I can send you mine…

You may have had bubbling problems if the paint wasn’t completely dry. The layer on the outside looks and feels dry, but underneath it is still wet and will ‘boil’ when heat setting.
