Every crafter knows that adhesive is one of the most important tools we can have in our arsenal. I was so excited to see the MyStik adhesive tool by Scrapbook Adhesives to review! According to Scrapbook Adhesives, the MyStik adhesive tool is a, “Fully customizable and refillable adhesive tool.” I couldn’t have phrased this better myself. One part of the tool is the adjustable comfort handle and the other is the actual adhesive cartridge that you can easily change out whenever you want. There are four different kind of adhesive cartridges to use with the MyStik; Permanent adhesive lines, Permanent vellum, mounting squares and repositionable dots. For this review I’m using the permanent lines and the vellum runners. On top of the main tool there is a button to help adjust the grip you would like to use. This is so nice when you are doing a long craft project and your hand doesn’t get cramped from being curled around a little adhesive runner.
The handle has a double-sided area that you can customize your own designs. Just pop off the clear cover, use the handy plastic template they give you to trace out what you want and decorate. This would be ideal for crops and classes. No one would mistake your MyStik for theirs!
Here’s a photo of the adhesives on some cardstock and then covered in flocking so you could see what it looked like.
Now to test the adhesive. I first tried the permanent vellum runner. Although you could easily see the adhesive through the other materials, it was virtually invisible on the vellum. After letting the adhesive set over night I tried to pull up the tests. Unfortunately, they came up pretty easily.
Next I did some tests on cardstock with the regular permanent runner. I repeated the steps above. This time when I pulled up the test pieces, the glue resisted my tug and ripped the cardstock or the test piece. I expected this to happen. I was impressed it surprisingly held the button and big bling on, even when I shook the cardstock up and down.
One great thing about the MyStik by Scrapbook Adhesives is that it’s owned by 3L. What does this mean for us? It is found in stores all over! From Target’s, to Office Max, big-box craft stores and many retailers on-line. The main unit for the MyStik is approximately $8 and this will include one cartridge of adhesive. The adhesive refills run at about $5 a piece. The length of glue differs from approximately 33-49 feet depending on what kind of adhesive cartridge you buy. I think this is a pretty good deal. I’ve become a fan of my little MyStik. It’s compact, comfortable, customizable and easy to use. What do you think crafters? Does this look like an interesting tool to add to your crafty arsenal?

This is cute. But I can’t see getting something to personalize unless you go to crops a lot and as you said don’t want it to get misplaced or taken by another. Maybe as a gift to a fellow scrapbooker or crafter with a special design in it. The real test is how long will the glue hold. I recently had to put a mini book back together for my mother-in-law that I made 5 years ago. I thought scrapbook glue was supposed to last for longer than 5 years.

That’s the thing, its cute and a one time buy but after that ???? $8 for a runner is a little high considering you can buy a better quality Adtech Glue Runner at less then half the price.
EDITOR”S NOTE: This commenter works for Adtech.

I tend to stay away from tape runners, as they are usually way to pricey and most tape runner adhesive will degrade over time, which means my cards fall apart. The only tape runner I have found (other than my ATG) which is extra strong, permanent, doesn’t degrade and has 72 feet (yep…72 feet!!) of adhesive for only $3.65 is the tape runner from Crafter’s Companion. An absolutely amazing little bit of adhesion that lasts FOREVER!!

I wasted a lot of time and money on this piece of junk. The sticky tapes got stuck inside every single one of the tape runners I purchased. I will never use these agains. And the company was nonresponsive to my concerns, ignoring my very diplomatic messages.
