I’ve you’ve visit CTD before, you know that I love recycling/”green” crafts. So when the lovely Lish sent me a bag of empty thread spools, my wheels got spinning.
We’re not talking cool, vintage spools, either. We’re talking new, plastic spools. So it was an extra challenge to turn today’s trash into something worth keeping. I came up with this:
Here’s a brief explanation on how I did it.
First, I used an Elmer’s Painters marker to color the top and bottom brown. I was going to use some DCWV Fabric Paper, and the brown coordinated very well.
Then I used the fabric paper to cover the middle section of the spool. I added some brown and blue ribbon, too.
Next, I wadded up some batting and secured it with a drop of hot glue.
I hot-glued it to the spool, and then covered it with a piece of burlap. I used my Hot Glue Gun Helpers paddle to keep the burlap in place until it cooled and held securely.
Lastly, it needed a base- so I scrounged up a door knob plate that I had in my metal salvage bin. Hot glue wouldn’t hold it, so I used some E-6000 to secure it permanently.
All set! I used what I had on hand, and it’s a perfect place to park my Shrink Plastic Flower Head Pins!
Have fun recycling…!
