Happy Friday! We are still combing through all of the pictures and videos we took at #CHAshow and I thought I’d tie (dye?) them together in today’s post!
One of the cool make-n-takes at the show was at the iLoveToCreate booth. Rupert Boneham, celebrity Survivor winner, was on hand to crack jokes and tie-dye with folks. He’s as famous for this tie-dye shirts as he is for his good humor, bushy beard, and booming voice. This guy is the real thing. You kinda want to hug him.
(PS- if you feel inclined, check out the RupertsKids charity page.)
I love that the iLoveToCreate dies are packaged in the squirt bottles. Just add water and GO! And no soaking with soda ash or anything too messy.
Want to win a tie-dye kit so you can try it at home?
Leave a comment for us sharing *your* impression of tie-dye. Cool? Retro? Love it? Hate it?? Share your thoughts and we’ll pick a winner at random on Saturday, January 24 2014.

I love tie dye because it’s free-form and the designs are always a surprise. One of my favorite classes I taught was in dyeing. Any chance to play with it more, I’m there!
Tie dye is classic; it evokes specific emotions, thoughts, and feelings. Ironically, I wasn’t even alive during its heyday and I still feel it. That’s what classic things do…they transcend time and generations.
I started wearing tie dye in the 70’s, so COOL is the first word that comes to mind. Secondly, every piece is UNIQUE! And now it’s so much easier to do than it was 35 years ago!
Oh, how I remember those tie dye days of yester year.
I kinda like the tie dye…..always one-of-a- kind piece but I have to admit, I wouldn’t want to wear a tie dye shirt all the time; just every now and then.
Would be interesting to do some curtains as I know my 5 year old granddaughter would love such a thing as she likes bright colors
I love Tie Die it’s cool and to me it’s really pretty I truly love it always
have and I can’t imagine life without it. (LOL) I even have scrapbook paper
pack that is all the Tye Die look.
Thanks for a great prize to play with it how cool.
I LOVE tie Dye!!! We dyed some T-shirts for the first time last summer and it was so much fun! Need more dye now, I want to tie-dye EVERYthing!!!
I Love the tie dye! Look at his shirt! And what’s hanging behind him….Gorgeous! My grandgirls love to do tie dye and I know that was one of the things they’ve done at their birthday parties with their friends. I think it’s in! Rupert, he’s super! 🙂 Survivor! That’s why he looked familiar 🙂
My 5 year old son made tie-dyed Tee shirts that he gives away to his friends for their birthdays *so proud* that my son enjoys crafting with his momma. I love how tie-dye brings the family together and makes wearable art!
My heart is kind of hippie, in a way, many people tell me I look like Janis Joplin (I wish I could sing like her), so the tie-die shirt is also kind of my psyco symbol and there es not better way to recreate it than the Tulip bottles
when done nicely it looks pretty cool. when not done nicely it looks sort of tacky. but no matter what it looks like it is super fun to do!
I adore tie dye! If i could wear some variety every day, I totally would!
This is a blast from the past…lol!! I think it’s cool. Makes for “FUN” projects to do!! Would love to win 🙂
Wow….I have not thought about Tie Dye for a long time, I know they have kits in the store, I just never get over to that section. I remember The first thing I tie dye’d was a Muu’Muu'(long dress), it turned out awesome in fact I wore that dress a lot. Thank you for the memories and the chance to win and do it all over again…LOL
I can’t believe they had Rupert teaching tie dye at CHA! So awesome! I love it. I had a tie dye party for my kids a few years ago and I still have massive amounts of the dye lot because the cheapest way to go for 20 kids was the ‘real’ dye. I could set up another party any day! The hardest part was getting everyone’s stuff ahead of time so I could prewash and treat it all so it was ready to go. If I was doing it again, I’d make copies of the most popular folds from the book I bought so the moms could have the garments already folded before coming up to do the dyeing saving a lot of time.
Love it! Reminds me of my hippy days! LOL Looks like a fun project to do with my grand daughter.
Tie dye takes me back! I have always loved the freedom and brightness of tie dye. It is so sun and cheerful to wear. Fun for all ages!
Tie dye…I have always loved tie dye and still do! From the 60’s until now, I have always had a least one (usually many more) tie dye shirts in my wardrobe! I think I’ll wear something tie dyed until I die!
I like tie-dye best when it is just 2-3 colors. The rainbow look is just too much for me. This would be lots of fun to do with my three boys!
My granddaughter had a tie-die birthday party on December 5th and all her friends got to make a shirt. It was great watching ten girls create their masterpieces! My grandson’s birthday is in February and he wants a tie-die themed birthday party also. I told my daughter that the boys should do the mismatched socks. Thanks for sharing the video from CHA. The kids and their parents loved participating in this craft. The girls all wore their tee shirts to school.
Would love to to try this on some string and other textiles. My daughter had a shirt she made in school one time and loved it.
What a fun presentation! I don’t see the picture of the finished socks, though. (Not sure if it was omitted or if I’m having technical difficulties on my computer.) Any chance the photo could be (re)posted?
Couldn’t see the pic of the finished socks, bummer. But loved the video…I love to dye things, anyway I can. It’s def. cool that you don’t need to do the soda ash thing anymore just wet, dye, let sit, rinse. Yahoo. Fun, fun, fun. Thanks for all the videos from CHA, almost felt like I’d been there.

I think tie dye is so interesting. I love surprises so looking at the pattern after it’s done is always so neat – very unexpected! Love it!!
Thanks for the chance at a tie dye kit!
Love tie die, loved it as a kid and still love it now! It’s like opening a present and finding a unique one of a kind art piece.
Tie Dye is AWSOMENESS at it’s finest! Wonderful, bright, happy colours which bring a smile to my face. Love.

So much fun! It’s a classic. I love the ease of these kits.
I love to tie die! Brings back many good memories and now it is so much easier! How fun to see Rupert tie dying! Thanks for a chance to win!
Still disappointed that the picture of the finished socks didn’t get posted. I do LOVE tie-dye, always have and always will. There’s something about the bright colors and designs that make it impossible for me not to smile!
I love tie-dye!!! I think it’s both cool and retro. Jerry Garcia, and peace signs baby!!!
My boys tried tie dye at VBS last summer and have since outgrown the shirts they made. So….they have already put in a request to try it again this summer. This kit would be put to good use at our home! It was fun helping all the kiddos do it last summer, I’d love to try it again! So fuN!
Cool, Dude!
Thanx, Cyn
I would love to get this kit. My Granddaughter and I would have so much fun dyeing white fabric so she can make cloths for her dolls. She is 11. Thanks for the chance.
I have never tie dye before. I so am excited!
I think that it the tie dye is so retro and cool. It looks so much easier then in the past with all the steps.
Haven’t tie dyed since I was a youth but would love to try it again.
I love the idea of doing socks! This would be a blast with my 13 and 16 year old boys. They love to be creative and it’s difficult to find things to do with teen aged boys. Heck, even my husband might join in on this one. Oh and being Survivor fans, I’ll definitely have to show them the video of Rupert!!!
I love being creative. I am sure my children will love joining me on a tie dye venture 🙂 I would love to see the finished result though 🙁
