Five Top Craft Trends at CHA 2015

January 24, 2015

Going the the Craft and Hobby Mega Show is a must, not just to drool at the new product releases for 2015, but also to spot trends and colors that will be must-haves for crafting and home decor.

Wanna peek? I made you a video:

But just to recap…..

FOILS:

CHA Trends 2015: FOILS

The trend of shimmer and shine extends from home decor to paper crafting to fashion. There is even a new foiling machine from Heidi Swapp called the Minc! Foiling is HUGE.

Chalkboard/Black

CHA Trends 2015: Chalkboards and Black

This trend shows no signs of slowing- new markers, fabric products, and mediums that are to be used on black surfaces keep popping up.

Neon

CHA 2015 Trends: Neon

Yes, it can be a bit overwhelming…but paired with the aforementioned black/chalk backgrounds, neons are fresh. And the “it” neon? Teal green!

Geometrics

CHA Trends 2015: Geometrics

I’m still seeing lots of hexagons, polka-dots, stripes, and even chevrons are still holding on. My pick is the jewel or gemstone shapes like the one in the die shown above.

Marquee/ Lights

CHA Trends 2015: Marquee /Lights

Undeniably the biggest trend so far! Heidi Swapp has make-your-own Marquee Light kits (spotted already at Michael’s Stores), Styrofoam is recreating them, and even tech-craft start-ups like Chibi and Lightseeds are offering ways to brighten up your crafting!

I’ve spotted a few of these in action in stores already.  Take a look at the Valentine’s Day set up at Target stores, spotted the day after I got home:

Neon AND faux-marquee lights!

Which of these trends do you love? Will you use them in your crafting? Any you hate? We’d love to hear your opinion!

I like the foil but not buying a machine to use it. Geometric and marque lights are cool. Neo and chalk i will pass.

The geometric design elements will be nice additional design elements in my quilt and floorquilt fabric decoupage designing. They do seem fresh and i have already noticed their appeal with young adults.

I have got to get a hold of those lighting circuits! I can already imagine a million ways to use them on my greeting cards. Exciting lighting!!

Well, I’ve never been a follower of trends and it doesn’t look like I will be for these either. Absolutely none of them interest me. However it’s still fun to see what’s coming out and what’s available. Thanks for sharing!

I am not a “trendy” person. That said, I just painted the upper half of my dining room walls black last fall. I have been trying to find artwork for the room. Maybe a gold metallic, geometric canvas will be just the thing I need! Too many trends in one room??

No way! And if you swap out canvases then you can go with the crafty trends.
