I don’t care what kind of crafting or DIY you do, you probably use- or need- a craft knife. (Emergency seam ripper, anyone?) Well, a GOOD craft knife is a thing of beauty. And here’s my rant on it!
Now just to reiterate:
- Choose a craft blade/knife that is easy to replace the blade.
- CHANGE YOUR BLADE OFTEN for great cuts and best results
- Keep out of reach of kids and pets. (“Park” it in a mug filled with rice.)
- You might benefit from a craft blade that has a built-up or soft handle.
I’ve got some of the ones I mentioned in the affiliate round-up below. I earn a small commission from each sale and those funds help pay to keep CraftTestDummies afloat, so thank you in advance if you chose to use those links. 🙂

Jenny, this literally made me laugh out loud! Loved it!
I have the Fiskars knife (blue rubbery with orange cap) and it seems like the blades just don’t fit properly anymore? It says it will take the #11 blade, but I just can’t seem to make that work because the round metal part of the handle it too small to allow the blade to go down far enough (did that even make sense?) Anyway, just wondered if you have one of these and if you have had any trouble with it?
Love this tutorial! You have an amazing sense of humour. Plus the info is über great too. Love it!
I’m a new follower and really like your site. I always learn something. Now I will look for a new craft knife that will fit my hand better. For all my pointy things, craft knife, poky tools etc. I use corks from wine bottles on the tips. One it’s pretty safe and two they don’t roll off the table.
I appreciate the time you put into this site. Great job!
Oh, you are so funny! I love watching your very informative videos. And, I love your necklace.
This video is a crack up! Thanks for the laughs. Off to check out the WRMK blade as I detest using my Exacto blade. I never knew there were other options, so thanks for the wonderful information. I have old hands, tendonitis and it hurts my 2nd finger when holding items like pens and such (I go through lots of bandaids for padding protection). I’m hoping the WRMK won’t apply pressure as much in that area (the area where a pen rests against your finger).
I love your blog!! You are so funny and your videos are great. You are giving good advices here but you are missing the possibility of using ceramic blade craft knives. I use that kind of craft knives when crafting with my son and it is nearly impossible to cut skin.
