Creative Imaginations has a great line of stencils and I was sent a few for review. From their Existencils line, these came individually packaged in plastic with white paper behind them.
I tried out the following:
- Monarch Stencil Kit — 12 x 12 with 7 different designs that can be separated
- Nature Stencil Kit — 12 x 12 with 8 different designs that can be separated
- Oceana Stencil Kit — 12 x 12 with 7 different designs that can be separated
- Oceana Stencil 6×6 — various designs on one sheet (not able to cut into different designs)
At only $6 for the larger size and $3.50 for the smaller, these stencils are definitely for those of us on a budget. The material on these stencils was very thin and did not feel very sturdy. You are able to cut the larger sheets apart into separate smaller stencils by the provided perforation lines. This makes the larger sheets easier to handle once cut into a smaller stencil. I broke out my Silks glazes to try these out.
I started with a sheet of card stock. I glazed over the entire sheet in green then began with my stencil in pink.
I attempted a repeating pattern across the paper with the stencil. The stencils do not have any marks to help with repeating patterns so it made this difficult. Creative Imaginations does have some larger stencils that have a repeating pattern already on them. Check out their entire line of stencils if you are using them for a pattern.
I did have a little trouble with the glaze wanting to run under the stencil but overall my experiments were a success.
I also tried out the ocean stencils on a piece of old wood. They worked great considering the pits and cracks that are naturally in old wood.
All of the shell patterns I tried out on the sign turned out great with little or no run under the stencil.
I also made a flower hang tag. Head on over to my blog The Country Chic Cottage for all the information on how to make one of these for yourself.
I experimented with these stencils for a few hours which included painting and washing quite a few times. One of the stencils did tear at some point during my experimentation. I did not feel I used excessive force when washing them. I would be careful with these especially around the thinner edges.
Overall the stencils were a success. You cannot beat the price of $6 for the largest 12 x 12 stencil once you consider that these can be cut into 7 to 8 smaller stencils. A great value for something that can be used over and over again. Please note above to take care when using and washing your stencils as the material is on the thinner side.
