Crafty Storage Solutions: Bento Boxes by Rubbermaid and a #GIVEAWAY!

September 22, 2012

Can we talk a moment, crafter-to-crafter? Lean in, I don’t want this to spread….

I’m chronically disorganized. In an organized way, of course.

What this means is that I have an organizational system, but often I get wrapped up in projects and forget to put them away before things get out of control. Or even MORE likely is that I have several projects that are ongoing…so I don’t really want to put them away.

A typical day at the dining room table- ongoing craft projects for the whole family.

So now let’s talk about how to corral those ongoing projects and hide them in plain sight with Bento Boxes by Rubbermaid-!

Can you see the crafts in this picture?

Spot it? Yes, it’s that pretty red box tucked neatly by my chair. BUT they are all neat and contained in a Bento Box by Rubbermaid. Let me show you some of the benefits and how YOU can hide your crafts in plain sight!

Bento Boxes are both stylish AND sturdy! Here’s how they are described on the website:

Typical storage boxes contain your items, but the inside becomes cluttered – making it difficult to find what you need. Rubbermaid’s Bento collection is designed to organize items, rather than just store them. The Bento Boxes have internal flex dividers, which enable you to divide the space by creating unique sections when needed. Boxes can stack vertically, or fit inside each other. Bento Toppers can act as trays, covers or lids, providing an extra layer of organization for the Bento Boxes, or hiding what’s inside. The Bento Collection is made from sturdy materials, and the heavy-duty decorative fabric enables it to remain out in your social spaces while complementing your home’s décor.

  • Internal Flex Dividers that can be individually popped open or closed
  • Toppers act as trays, covers or lids
  • The deep red tones of the Paprika pattern can add a little pop of classic color to your décor
  • Same size containers can stack on top of one another
  • Smaller sizes nest inside larger sizes for space efficient storage when not in use
  • CARB-certified MDF covered in durable polyester fabric

The boxes themselves are beautifully sturdy and look really high-end.

Even the interiors are finished nicely.

Plus, you’ve got those flexible dividers that fold back when you don’t need them, but pop out when you do!

The lids are clever, too- you can place them on top for a finished look…(and hiding the contents)…

Also note the handy carrying slot.

Or you can invert the lid to create a catch-all tray!

I love how even the bottoms are finished with little feet. It looks more “finished” and high-end- but it’s functional, too. The boxes will stack beautifully sans lids.

So…would you like to see how I’m using mine? I’m utilizing both the X-Large and the Medium with the lid for the X-Large. I’m corralling my Operation Write Home supplies- which is an ongoing project that I like to pull out weekly. (So that’s why I don’t want to put all of my supplies away.)

This medium-sized Bento Box holds my tape runners, OWH stamps, pens, and stamp pads.

Then I place the Medium Bento Box INSIDE my X-Large Bento Box!

The X-Large (with one side of the dividers extended) holds my envelopes, card blanks, and sentiment stamps.

Now I can tuck my Operation Write Home kit in the living room and pull it out when I have cards ready to stamp with sentiment and OWH stamp on the back. Since the lid flips over, I have a nice tray to work on, too. Great for TV Time crafting.
So…now…don’t you want a set? Rubbermaid has graciously offered a full set to one of my readers! You’ll get the Paprika kit (like the one I got) that includes the X-small, Small, Medium, Large, and X-Large boxes and lids for all except the X-small. (Wonder why they don’t make lids for that size, too?)
Anyway, for a chance to win, just leave a comment on this post sharing what YOU’D store in a Bento Box!

Wow!! These are awesome. Right now I have everything in these clear bins and it looks pretty atrocious. I’d be storing fabric, jewelery making/beading supplies, felting items.. I have a lot of different crafts I focus on. Haha.

Anyways, thanks for sharing this. I’ll have to look into the Lombard color and replace my clear bins! 😀

    Jenny,
These are functional and beautiful!! They are spacious enough to hold the flannel pieces I am using to make my grandson his new blankets! I have made all of his blankets since he was born three and a half years ago. Now that he has grown so much I am making him new, larger blankets. These boxes will be wonderful to store my fabric and essentials in while I am not working on his blankets. Having them right here in my great room tucked away will allow me to work on them as my time allows. I appreciate you taking pictures and giving the details about these great storage pieces! This is my first time entering to win anything online. I hope the mail address was for my e-mail.
    Thank you,
    Karen McDonald

these boxes would look wonderful in my living room. my office space hasn’t been “created” yet and i do most of my work on my ottoman. (it’s terribly uncomfortable and i do not suggest it to anyone!!! lol) now the space under the end table is cluttered with white boxes and clear boxes and who knows what else. i have a hard time digging through this mess to get the supplies i need. an organized set of boxes would fit the bill perfectly.

thank you for offering this give-away. i love to enter these contests, haven’t won yet, but it’s still fun!!!

good luck to all that enter!!!!

These look awesome! I’m really needing some pretty and functional storage. I’m thinking that these would also be awesome for traveling to my stamping retreats. I love how those dividers work!!! Usually the dividers aren’t convenient like these are. What a genius idea!

  13. Susan Parker says

    September 22, 2012 at 09:19

These could well be exactly what I am looking for! If the extra-large is at least 12×12, paper could fit, and if not, I could reorganize my wooden stamps! Thanks for featuring this!!!!

  15. Dani Matthews says

My paper crafting table has become a mad hot mess of stuff everywhere. I would use the Bento boxes to organize all my tools and supplies that I like to keep handy.

Wow! These are really neat. I can see my jewelry supplies in one of these boxes all together. They’d be nice and tidy and I could leave them in the livingroom and they’d be safe from the cats! Thanks for the opportunity. Lynda

Very nice! I am chronically disorganized in many places but my craft room is the worst. I just had shelves put up but that only helped for a while. Here’s to hoping Bento boxes can help!

  19. Sonia says

    September 22, 2012 at 09:53

I would use this set just like Jenny set it up: as a mobile card-making station. Bonus: the color matches my furniture!!

  20. Christie Todd says

    September 22, 2012 at 10:14

All of my crafting supplies and workspace are in the basement of my apartment building. These would bea great opportunity to have some projects in progress on hand without heaing about “the mess.” It would be wonderful on cold rainy after work nights when I don’t want to be isolated downstairs. What a fantastic compromise!

  21. Laura says

    September 22, 2012 at 10:24

I’d store extra supplies that are stored in much less attractive ways right now — extra adhesive, extra ribbon, the heat gun, etc. I’d use them to gather materials for a project to work on in the living room — something that I usually don’t do, because there’s no good way to gather everything easily.

  22. Julie Hulver says

    September 22, 2012 at 10:28

Your dining room table looks ALMOST as bad (good?!) as mine! These boxes look like a great way to hide some of my stash in plain sight.

Oh, I could so use some these! Thank You 🙂

  24. Toni Leli says

    September 22, 2012 at 10:37

Wow! What great ideas everyone has! Since my “craft room” is my “laundry room,” good storage is a MUST! I’d love to store all my stamp sets in these boxes and place them outside my craft room, but keep them handy. That would leave me more space to work and craft. Thanks for the chance to win!

  25. Kristina says

    September 22, 2012 at 10:39

Wow, these are so pretty – who knew they were ultra-functional, too?? Would love to have these!!

  26. Peter K says

    September 22, 2012 at 10:41

The Bento Boxes would be great to quickly clean up and “hide” my craft projects in the living room. They would also be great to store my aquarium supplies next to my fish tanks.

  27. Carol L says

    September 22, 2012 at 11:01

Where have these storage boxes been all my life! What an incredible and stylish way to contain all of those odds and ends that seem to lie around and turn into crafting clutter 🙂 I LOVE all the compartments and storage capacity! Like you, my growing pile of OWH cards would most likely find a home inside one of these Bento boxes! For the time being, I toss them into a flat rate box from the post office until it’s full, and then I prepare them for mailing, but one of these Bento boxes would look so much nicer in the room! TFS!

  28. Caroline D. says

    September 22, 2012 at 11:05

They look like really good and useful boxes. I try to be organized, but sometimes it is just hard to be. LOL We all have good intentions I think! I’d use these boxes to help organize and store my craft supplies… sure would be nice to win these!

  29. superstitches says

    September 22, 2012 at 11:13

Those boxes seem like a really great way to store those creative messes. It would be nice to have several to deal with the current projects. Some times you just have to clean up in a hurry and don’t really want to put everything away.

These boxes are beautiful! I’d use them to store my kids homework supplies. My children like to do their homework in the living room, and often time, their papers, pencils, calculators, notecards, etc. are strewn all over the coffee table.

Hi, I am just like you, there are certain crafts I am always making and have a go to set of things I like out all the time, stamps, glue, tag punch, ink pads… I also like to make card for Operation Write Home, so this would be excellent, thanks for the chance!

  37. Noreen says

    September 22, 2012 at 12:28

    September 22, 2012 at 12:31

I re-purpose/recycle t-shirts by making “yarn” out of them, and then knitting or crocheting them into mats, rugs, bowls, etc.usually in the evening while watching TV. In the Rubbermaid Bento Boxes, I would store my supplies(needles, scissors, wound “yarn”,uncut t-shirts, etc) and the current project. This would be so helpful, not only for storage, but with the cover in use, the projects would also stay dog hair free-or at least have less hair on them when finished-LOL!

  39. Betsy says

    September 22, 2012 at 13:31

I have my tools/supplies in a different part of the house from where I actually do my assembly and finishing. I could see using these to bring a category of items (say, beads, jewelry pliers, wire and findings) to the other room to use and have everything where it needs to be when I need it and end up all nice and neat in the process! These look terrific: aesthetically and functionally!

  40. Cecelia says

    September 22, 2012 at 13:40

How cool are those Bento boxes!!! I’ve never seen them before but I want them! I also would use them in my craft room. What a great way to class up my room! Love the different sizes too. From my paper to the smallest of stickers I could put in there. Maybe hide some of my favorite snacks in them too! LOL.

  41. jengd says

    September 22, 2012 at 13:54

I’d definitely use these for craft supplies. I’d love to have a box of beading things and other small items in our living room so when the guys are watching sports, I have something to do other than either web-surfing/blog reading, or fleeing the scene.

  42. Patti Stone says

    September 22, 2012 at 14:12

ooo — the options are endless. i see papercrafting in one, painting in another, jewelry-beading supplies all contained in their own set of containers. sewing and quilting projects could each go into their own project box with everything together … pattern, fabric, embellishments. i’m breathless with excitement to see these in person! then i have the option to work in my craft space (in an organized fashion) or in the family room, or going somewhere to craft with a friend.

    September 22, 2012 at 15:17

Good Maude! The Bento is the coolest looking storage solution I’ve seen in a long time for those of us who are seriously space-challenged! I could see using the extra large or large one store big background stamps or punches (they take up so much room!!) and the smaller ones to store all manner of bits and bobs I use in my art – not to mention all those danged cello-packs of stickers that slide all over everywhere and take up *way* more room than they look like they should!

  45. Donna Ingalls says

    September 22, 2012 at 15:22

I would love to win these fabulous looking and functional boxes. Oh, how I need a place to store my scrapbooking supplies that is out of the way. It would be great to have everything in the same area and all organized.
    Thanks for the opportunity.

    September 22, 2012 at 16:30

Very cool. Looks like a great solution. One cannot have enough storage boxes. These look
better than the usual plastic variety. My uncounted stamps are out of control. I’d love to round them up and put them in these boxes.

  47. Teresa Jaye says

    September 22, 2012 at 16:31

These look really beautiful and sturdy – I’m always up for a good box and an amazing storage system. I think I would do like you did and use one for a TV time storage box. I’m thinking like a few punches, some coordinating scraps, inks, and brads. Then when I’m watching TV, I can make bunches of flowers for later use. Thanks for the opportunity to win and for introducing us to these amazing boxes!

  48. Desiree Koons says

    September 22, 2012 at 16:48

These are amazing! I’m currently doing a lot of resin charms and that leaves me with a lot of little things that I need to organize. My “crafting room” is really just our front room, so having a conspicuous way to hide my stuff when I’m not working on it would be amazing!

  49. Theresa Conte says

    September 22, 2012 at 17:16

I think these are so pretty AND functional. I would put journaling supplies in mine to keep them close by while watching TV.

  50. Caryn S. (Scrapnsing) says

    September 22, 2012 at 17:17

I invariably have some half-finished project sitting by my chair in front of the tv, usually knitting, smocking, papercraft, or some other fun little thing that I can do while half watching tv. I sometimes do my mending there as well as reading whatever latest issue of magazines/newspapers there are that I’ve gotten in the mail. I would store any and all of this in the bento boxes, if nothing else at least it will reduce the clutter!

  51. Cindy deRosier says

Buttons? brads? stickers? maybe just ink pads?). SO MANY possibilities! 🙂 Would love to win cool storage! 😀

The beautiful, storage Bento boxes would be PERFECT for my card making supplies! I could fill them with the supplies I needed for my card projects & keep them in the same place that I’m doing my work! My tiny craft/storage room is just big enough to store my supplies but not big enough to work in, so I’m constantly making multiple trips in & out to bring the supplies to the livingroom or diningroom where there’s room to actually work. I send the cards to my son & his crewmates while they are deployed overseas in the war area. So far over 250 this year.

These would be perfect to store all the ongoing projects I have to keep organized for sharing with my clients as work. As an Expressive Arts therapist working in a substance abuse program for pregnant women and mothers, I have found bringing in a variety of paper crafting and crafting projects into the daily treatment program classes has really helped to engage them in the recovery process…but my own crafting area, where I create all the prototypes and the class kits, is my dining room…as it is for so many others, and it would be awesome to have a storage system dedicated to the work projects so I could then more easily find my own projects!

Just like you, I would store those items that I craft with in the main part of the house. I at times have stacks of canvases, paints, collage materials and journals stacked high on the hearth. This would allow me to keep stuff close but out of sight. Love these!

I have seen these at my local fabric store and immediately started to drool! The quality and convenience (not to mention the thought) that rubbermaid has put into making these storage boxes for crafty organizers is absolutely awesome. I don’t usually enter “contests” but this one is definitely worth it! I’m in the middle of trying to reorganize my very small and tight sewing area right now. Since its off to the side of my living room, its quite a challenge trying to keep my supplies looking as great as the rest of the room! These would make a huge difference <3

Oh, and distress ink. I think that I would love to win this just to have everything nearer to the family room. Thank you!!

These are fabulous! I’m always working on a project at my coffee table so I can watch tv while working. (I guess I should really just move a tv into my storage room. hmm) I usually store the mid-project supplies under my coffee table all jumbled. I hate it (and my husband hates it) but it makes it easy to start right up again when I get a moment. These Rubbermaid boxes would be a perfect compromise! I’ve been cross-stitching a birth record for my newest nephew, so it would be great to store all the different strands of thread, scissors, needles, hoop, etc. Thanks for the chance to win!
