It seems that I’ve been living a whirlwind life of travel these days… we just got back from Melbourne and then we were off as a family for a Royal Caribbean cruise. Of course, I brought my travel kit and couldn’t resist taking a peek at what the craft activities offered on our ship, the Oasis of the Seas. While onboard, I made you a little video!
You can tell I’m really in “cruise” mode because I’m not wearing makeup and my hair is a wind-blown mess….but I was having a GREAT time!
I did get question from a YouTube friend, so I’ll answer them here, too:
- Do you know if every cruise line has a crafting and scrapbooking opportunity? No, I don’t know that. But on the Royal Caribbean cruise we took 2 years ago, there were scrapbooking kits available at the photo center and there were classes held around the ship. (There wasn’t a specific craft/activities room on that one.)
Do you craft while traveling? What kind of craft activities would you like to see on a cruise? I’d love to hear from you!

I’ve done a few cruises on Royal Caribbean and they have all offered crafting classes (jewelry making, scrapbooking, etc.) on the ship during sea days. I did a transatlantic crossing on Royal Caribbean last year, so we had seven days at sea before hitting our first port of call. Taking the crafting classes was a great way to pass the long days at sea! They don’t have a dedicated craft room on the smaller ships, so the classes were taught in the main dining room.
Normally, I don’t craft when we’re travelling. But I try to take as much pictures as I can and I collect items that I think will go well with them. Last year I had plans to do a mini, but I didn’t do it yet.
Interesting! We’ve talked about taking a cruise for next to forever- this is not something I would have known to check out.
looks like you’re having a good time. Enjoy.
My only traveling is to the hospital and I have a GO bag of crafting supplies packed and ready to go whenever I am admitted to the hospital. That way I have something to keep from dying of boredom while I am a patient! Everyone in my family knows that is the first bag to grab when the ambulance arrives!
I just returned from a 10 day Mexican Baja California cruise on Princess. I didn’t realize there were crafting opportunities until the last day. I headed to the first session of a card-making class, but I’m using a walker and didn’t get there fast enough. They could only take the first 50 (yes 50!) participants and the rest were turned away. I went to the second session and found it was much smaller and lots of fun.
I took a crafting travel kit that was both hit and miss. The miss was that I used a computer rolling bag that doesn’t open fully. The hit was that I went back to my room before the card making class and took a few supplies with me. The other crafters at my table were very happy. Instead of just one pair of scissors and tape roll, we had two of each. I also took nautical Washi tape and shared with the leaders as well as those at my table. It was a huge hit.
Next time, I’m going back to my smaller cosmetic case that opens into two clear pockets. My travel journal is larger, so I just take it along with the cosmetic case in a shopping tote (often given to passengers on cruise ships.)
By the way, I fell in love with Mexico.
