In June I spent just over a week going on tour with the Cleveland Youth Wind Symphony. My son plays the baritone sax and was slated to play 5 concerts throughout Germany, The Netherlands (Holland) and Austria. Like any good parent, I decided to tag along.
We had a lovely time bonding, and I got to see countries I’ve never been to before. And being me (because of course, I am) I had to seek out some crafty places- both supplies and handmade items. While we were on a pretty tight schedule, I DID manage to find a few. Take a look at my video below to see crafty goodness!
I also spent a few hours in Delft- the land of painted pottery- and I even bought a few beads and goodies. But I’m saving that for another day. Til then, I’d love to know if YOU like to travel and if you seek out cool craft stores or handmade vendors. Feel free to leave and comment and share your stories!

Hello Jenny,
How awsome that you could travel with your son to Europe.
Liked your video-tour.
See you went to Delft, one of the older towns/cities of Holland, did you visit any craftstores too, there a a few around there ;o)

I would have went nuts over that paper, I would have rolled up in a tube and put in suitcase, or shipped home, that stuff looked beautiful. Thanks for sharing..

Hi Jenny,
What a cute photo of you and your son! I love going on adventures with my kids!
I think the craftiest place I have ever visited was in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. It is like stepping back in time! I have no idea how to knit or crochet, but the wool made me wish I had a reason to buy it all! The local women are skilled at hooking wool, and I bought some Christmas ornaments that are treasures in our family. There are woodworkers and potters, too. Lovely!

Nice way to spend time with your son and see a few sights at the same time. Lovely picture.
My husband and I went to Scotland on a photography tour last year. We went a few days early and bummed around Edinburgh for a bit. Did look up craft stores a head of time and found one within walking distance. Was a jammed packed little store (stuff on walls to ceiling). Disappointed that most of the products were from the US. He even said to buy back home as cheaper. Did get a couple of small things.

What a great adventure! I do like to seek out crafty places when I travel — and also antique stores, farmers markets and flea markets. Last time I was in NYC I spent a couple of extra days in Brooklyn and Manhattan going from craft store to craft store — e.g places like Purl SOHO — and I had so much fun doing it. And next time I’m in LA I want to make sure to go to the Rose Bowl flea market. I love getting the local flavor when going somewhere and getting outside of the touristy things…crafts and flea markets and farmers markets are perfect. You and your son are adorable; what a wonderful experience for him! Very cool he plays the sax.

Hi Jenny:
Your son must be really talented just like his mom! How exciting that you were able to join him on his concert tour. I loved the photos taken in Germany and the crafts that they have available to them. Thanks for sharing! I think your son looks just like you…the lucky young man!
