Ever want a whole bunch of fancy edge scissors, but don’t want to store them all? Meet the genius of Westcott ZigZagz Interchangeable Blade Scissors! With two bases and six sets of blades, you get lots of options and easy storage!
Here’s how they are described:
Zigzags interchangeable blade scissors add a decorative edge to most types of paper. Includes one set of scissors and six pairs of interchangeable blades, making it ideal for children and adults to craft or create. Perfect for customizing stationery, photographs, rubber stamp projects, stencil and other paper crafting projects. Cushioned handles and plastic blades ensure safe, comfortable cutting. Suitable for ages 4 and up.
So now let’s take a closer look. Inside the molded storage box, you get two sets of handles and six sets of blades.
There are three sets available, and this is “set three.” If you take a closer look at the blades, you’ll see that the blades are color-coded AND there is a preview of the pattern printed on the side.
The handles are fairly sturdy and you can see the groove in which you insert the blades.
It’s easy to slide the blades into the grooves and they make a satisfying little “click” when they are securely in place. It’s easy enough for my 8 year old to do without supervision.
See the pattern on the blade? Just in case you forget. : )
SO! Of course, the question is how do they actually cut. I did a swatch test- first take a look at the photo. The list is below that.
From left to right:
- cardstock
- photo paper
- construction paper
- text weight paper
- tissue paper
- duct tape sheet
- watercolor paper WITH decoupage on top
- cereal box cardboard
As you can see, the tissue was a BIG fail- it was just too thin and it slipped and tore between the blades. The Duck Tape sheets were also no so successful- it was just too tough. However, it is worth noting that it didn’t stick one bit. I was surprised at how well it cut the cardboard, too- a nice crisp line.
I used the pretty wavy edge to create a little peek-a-boo edge card:
Very simple, but effective, right?
(PS- stamps by Papertrey Ink, ScrapHappiness, and Kaleidacolor Rainbow Stamp Pad.)
Now, I didn’t bother to try these on fabric because frankly they just weren’t created for that. But for fun paper crafts (and I’m especially thinking with the kiddos) these are perfect and would be a great stocking stuffer!
As I was preparing for the review, finding them online was a bit of a challenge. Finally I found them at the Amazon.com website for $15.00. But want to know the truth? I found them at a discount store for $2.99!
My daughter is already asking if she can keep them in her room- and I’m inclined to say yes. I see lots of holiday crafting in her future!
I’d love to hear your questions or comments on the Westcott ZigZagz Interchangeable Blade Scissors!

They look exactly like the ones I have from Maped, I wonder if the maker is the same and it sells to both brands.

I think I saw something like this, perhaps the same item, on another site or email. I immediately thought “It’s ABOUT TIME!” Companies have been making interchangeable blades for our paper trimmers for years, but perhaps the durability or lifetime of plastic versions has been in question. Thanks for another great review… yes, let your daughter have them lol.

Those look great! I will have to get some for my crafty son (8) – maybe for his Christmas stocking!

I saw these at TJ Max yesterday. I think I may need to back and get them. Thanks for the review..
