Paper cutters/trimmers are one of the most important tool a crafter can have. And depending on what kind of paper you are using- and what size you need cut trim it to- there are LOTS of options. For those of us who routinely work with card or cover stock, you KNOW you need a heavier-duty trimmer that can handle the thickness of the paper as well as cutting multiple sheets at once.  Now EK Success has a new Martha Stewart Heavy-Duty Paper Trimmer that can handle those bigger jobs!

So let’s dig in!

Here’s how it’s described on the website:

Cut multiple sheets of 12″ x 12″ paper at once with the Deluxe Paper Trimmer from Martha Stewart Crafts. Paper lock holds paper in place for straight, accurate cuts. Features an alignment guide, gridlines and popular card sizes for easy measuring, plus a finger guard and handle lock for safety. Sleek, lightweight design is perfect for the home or office. Size: 14″ x 15″.

When you first unpack it from the box, you’ll find that the handle is not attached. It’s very easy to insert the handle on the cutting arm with a simple push.

There are markings (in inches)  along the top edge, left side, and on the cutting platform. You’ll even see some of the most-used sizes outlined in dashed and bold lines.

You also get a paper guide that slides along a track at the top- a simple quarter-turn locks and unlocks it, creating a nice firm surface for you paper alignment. VERY helpful when cutting multiple sheets the same size! Also not the (open) storage tray at the top. Perfect for holding a pencil, cutting blade, or bone folder.

The paper guide helps you line up you paper- great for production work!

The arm locks down when not in use.

The clear finger guard protects your fingers AND secures the paper.

I made a video demonstrating the Martha Stewart Heavy Duty Paper Trimmer, and you can see what (and how) it cut!

I found that 3 pieces of card stock at one time was about the max.

Here’s a few pros and cons for you, to help you make your decision.

PROS:

  • easy to see markings
  • easy cutting motion (full arm)
  • sturdy!
  • handy storage tray

CONS:

  • only for righties
  • large footprint
  • not great for detail cuts under 1 inch

At an MSRP of $49.99 USD (but I’ve already seen it for less on Amazon), this is an investment- but if you are going to use it every time you craft (as I do) then it’s totally worth it.  I personally feel like I need both a heavy duty trimmer for big cuts and then a detail trimmer (I still really like the Martha Stewart Paper Trimmer) for my smaller cuts. How about you?

Great review. I would like one but wouldn’t have space for it. It does look like a really nice cutter.

It’s disappointing that, yet again, someone marketed ANOTHER paper trimmer that doesn’t cut SQUARELY….. ARGH! I’m still waiting for a square-cutting trimmer before asking Santa for one under our tree(s)…. we have 7 this year so far.

I enjoyed your video on the paper cutter.
