One of the perennial concerns crafters face (along with storage and organization) is cleanliness. With all of the paints, inks, sprays, glues, and markers, how on earth is one to keep their workspace clean? And let’s not even mention heat embossing! So today we are going to take a closer look at the Craft Mat from Imagine Crafts and see what it can take!
Let’s take a closer look!
This is a substantial mat that measures 15 inches X 18 inches- a very generous workspace. The texture is kind of like rubber, with a bit of “give” to it and a little bit of sticky texture. It actually grips the work surface!
Here’s how it’s described on the website:
The versatile IMAGINE Crafts Craft Mat will protect your work surface while you craft your masterpieces. The large 15″ x 18″ surface area is heat and stain resistant. Clean up is a snap with soap and water. Adhesives peel right off!
The Craft Mat is heat resistant to 395 degrees F- which is in the range of most heat guns. I decided to really abuse the mat, and put it through as many “everyday craft situations” as I could!
Here’s what I tried:
It’s so much easier to SHOW you rather than tell you, so I made you this video.
I’m really happy with the way the Craft Mat resisted heat, cleaned up after REALLY difficult stains (especially the spray paint and Staz-On solvent-based ink), and wiped up after glitter and embossing. The only thing it WON’T do is sustain damage from craft knives and scissors. While it won’t replace your cutting surface, it’s a great multi-use mat for all of your everyday craft messes!

How do you think this craft mat compares to Ranger’s?
Jenny says
Julie- it’s a different material. I’m going to do a side-by-side comparison to show you. It’s actually closer to the Hot Glue Gun Helpers mat!

I wish someone would make a bigger craft sheet. I have to use my dining room table to work, and if you are using a larger size paper or journal, spraying or misting something is hard because of overspray. I’m sure I’m not the only one with space issues.

The retail of the mat is $18. Imagine Crafts (Tsukineko) advises that tough stains be removed with StazOn Cleaner. Even ballpoint pen rubs off!

You have some amazing products but sometimes I have a hard time finding where to buy them. I would like to find the Imagine Crafts Craft Mat, I even talked to the people who make it and they can’t seem to let me know where to find one. Do you have any ideas? Or is there something simular to this?
Jenny says
Eleanor- I don’t have information on distribution of products. I’d contact the company, Imagine Crafts. Try their customer service contact on the website or on their Facebook page.

Susie- I think 15X18 is a very generous size for the average crafter, even using inks/mists. If you are super messy, why not duct tape 2 together? Then you’d have 18X130 for those large journal pages.

I love mine. I mean, love it! My LSS owner saw it at CHA and ordered a bunch of them, lucky for us! I haven’t seen them anywhere else yet. I paid MSF which was around $20-25. Well worth it! You can clean up anything, you can write notes on it in pen and just wipe off, it’s s great cushion for stamping…..well, obviously I like it!

I agree with Susie F – a larger mat would be really nice – 25 x 30 or even 30 x 36 – or all options – small, medium and large! I, too, work on the dining room table and/or kitchen counter and the 15 x 18 si not quite large enough for my “craftiness”! I will be on the lookout for this mat, though!

Tattered Angels had an oversized mat by Ranger…cost is about $50.
