If you are into scrapbooking or home decor, having a printer is a must. For creating digital pages, scanning in photos or artwork, or printing out stickers, photos- well, anything- having a reliable printer essential. Today I’m going to give you an overview of the Epson XP-410 Small in One Printer.
This is a great small-ish printer with a 12X15″ footprint.
Then you can extend the paper feeder, pull out the tray that catches the printed material, and lift the latch on the front screen so that it’s at a comfortable viewing angle.
Here’s how it’s described on the website:
Print, copy, scan and more — get all the performance you need from the sleek, quiet, easy-to-use Expression Home XP-410. This versatile printer delivers the complete wireless solution1. Print from anywhere in your home with Wi-Fi CERTIFIED™ or you can even print from your iPad, iPhone, tablet or smartphone2. The XP-410 features the latest in wireless standards, plus Wi-Fi Direct1. And, it supports Apple® AirPrint™ and Google Cloud Print™. Built-in card slots, a 2.5″ LCD and convenient touch panel make it easy to print borderless, customized photos in various layouts, PC-free. When you’re in a rush, you can grab your prints and go, thanks to DURABrite® Ultra instant-dry ink. The Expression Home XP-410 even offers individual ink cartridges so you can replace only the color that you need.
When you lift the lid, you’ll find the area for scanning. The whole lid lifts up to reveal the ink cartridges. It comes with a set to start with.
I like that you can replace just the color you need. And everytime you print, the print manager will tell you your ink levels. Also super-handy.
It took me a few minutes to install the software using the inclosed CD Rom. I also installed the Epson iPrint app so I could print right from my phone!
You can also print using the Wi-Fi but I haven’t got that configured yet. So, I made a video for you showing you the printer in action. PS- they DO recommend that you configure your computer by using a USB cable, which is NOT INCLUDED. So make sure you have one handy the first time you set it up, OK?
I found the print quality to be awesome- but of course, there is a small price to pay with the ink replacement cartridges. The XL (best quality for photos) Black cartridge is $29.99 MSRP and the colors $16.99. But considering the machine is $99, it’s still a great option for those who want to print great photos-on-demand for scrapbooking, right from home and their smartphone. PS- you can get it for even less using our affiliate link at the bottom of the page!!!
I didn’t have inkjet Shrink Plastic to test. But regular Shrink Plastic never dries.
Crazy to print on Deli Paper, right??? BUT IT WORKS!
I also had great success with Craft Attitude film. Yay!
Now, before someone asks how long the inks last, I’m sure a lot depends on the quality of printing you are doing (grayscale and draft mode verses best-quality photos), I found a good review here that breaks down the cost per page. I also see that you can by generic ink cartridges from Amazon.
Also, I did try the “sprinkle test”- I sprinkled water on a print, waited 3 minutes, and then wiped it with my fingers. No smudging smearing, or lifting of color!
Bottom line- I’m returning my Zink hAppy and using this one for pics and crafting. It’ll print up to 8.5X11 inch pages, and that’s plenty big for me. Plus- did you see that result on watercolor paper?? I’m in love.
If you have questions, I’ll be happy to try to answer them. And if you are in the market for a new printer, this one would be great to put on your Wish list!

I am so glad you like the epson printer. I have an epson wide format printer that will print up to 15×17 size photos. I absolutely love it. My printer ink cartridges do not come in the XL size, but I can usually print over 50 photos in various sizes along with 20 plus 12×12 pages of digital paper. I always print in “Best Quality” mode, too so my prints use more ink. I have tried a gazillion photo printers and the epson is by far my favorite. Consumers who are interested in the printer can find ink cartridges on the web at some discounted prices, but the epson does not like the generic refillable cartridges. They have to be epson cartridges. Not sure if my comments will help any, but I wanted to put in my half cent (I don’t think I’m quite up to the 2 cent price yet!). Love your blog and look forwarding to reading all the posts.

Hi – I found this post by googling epson “xp-410 watercolor paper”. I am having trouble printing on the watercolor paper. The printer goes to grab the page, can’t seem to find it, tries again, finds it, but just pushes it through without printing and then it tells me the printer is out of paper. I tried a few times and finally got success – once. I’m trying again with the same approach and having no luck! You mentioned in this post that the printer printed on watercolor paper like it gave you no problems and I was wondering what you might recommend as a strategy? Thanks!

Brittany- I’m glad you found me! You didn’t mention what weight of watercolor paper you were trying to print on. I used 90 lb and loaded one sheet at a time. Perhaps trying a lighter weight will give you the results you want. Hope this helps!

Thanks for the quick response! I am using the 90lb… I even called Epson to see what they may recommend and even though I’m sure the representative had the best intentions, they were not helpful… Anyway, as I was getting back here to respond I tried again – this time with two sheets in the paper tray to see if I could trick it into grabbing one – suddenly it worked! …. Who knows? Thanks again! 🙂
