Ok, so yesterday you read my love-note to Mod Podge. But did you know that Mod Podge comes in other formulations?? Well, it does, and today we’re going to talk about Mod Podge Shimmer! It come in both GOLD and SILVER, and will really transform how you look at good-old MP!
First, let’s talk about the way MP Shimmer is the same:
- It’s a glue, a finish, and a sealer
- It has a mild, distinctive odor.
- Has a tendency to show brushmarks. (Use a sponge-type brush to help this.)
- Has the viscosity of honey.
- Can be tacky to the touch when it dries. (But a quick coat of clear acrylic spray remedies this.)
- Non-toxic, safe for the kids.
- Works on any porous surface- paper, wood, cardboard, chipboard, fabric, cork, and more!
- Starts off opaque, but dries clear.
So why do you need MP Shimmer? Because it has just the right amount of shimmer and shine, without being overly noticible or glitzy. (There’s a different Mod Podge for that!) Take a look at my swatch video to see what I’m talking about:
See? Shimmer. LOVE IT! So….how would you use it? Well, I’ve got a few ideas…
You can also use Mod Podge Shimmer as an accent paint. After coating these Dover images with Matte Mod Podge to seal, I added Gold Shimmer as a paint, just to make some of the accents stand out.
For more about the full Mod Podge line and it’s history, visit PlaidOnline. I also have to give a shout-out to one of my blog heroes: Amy of  ModPodgeRocks fame…she’s always got great projects up! And she’s generous, too! She’s sponsoring a GIVEAWAY!
Just leave a comment on this post telling us what you would use MP Shimmer on, and we’ll draw a lucky winner to receive some Shimmer Mod Podge to play with! We’ll draw a name on Monday, 10/18/10. (And here’s a little insider tip- we’re giving Mod Podge goodies away all week!!! Come back every day for a chance to win!)
Thanks for reading, but this giveaway is CLOSED. Please read HERE for the winners!

Great post. I just picked some gold up this past weekend, hoping to put a bit of glimmer on some dried gourds for a fall display. I’ve been playing with the silver on a photo transfer on canvas that won’t quite come around to what I want, LOL.

I have been looking for something to use on my craft projects like bookmarks, tins and maybe my shrinky dink charms to give them that extra oomph! Now I know what to use! Thank you so much. Off to look for my Michaels coupon …

Shimmer is GOOD!
I don’t have shimmer in my stash… off to the store!
October 12, 2010 at 8:27 am
I have tried the shimmer! One of a group of samplers I purchased. I used it to seal an Ornament I made for a friend. Luv it!
October 12, 2010 at 9:49 am
I haven’t tried the shimmer MP yet, but it seems perfect for creating lovely shimmering Christmas ornaments! Maybe some shimmer-coated paper maché stars…
October 12, 2010 at 5:00 pm
Ugh! I was just looking for some Mod Podge Shimmer at my local JoAnn’s the other day and couldn’t find it. I wanted it for my “BOO” sign I just made for Halloween.
October 12, 2010 at 1:52 pm
Intriguing! First I’d shimmer up some flower pots and add some sparkle to my herb garden. I’ve been wanting to make some holiday trivets… now I’m imagining ‘shimmering’ those too!
October 12, 2010 at 1:53 pm
I haven’t tried MP Shimmer…. yet!
October 12, 2010 at 1:57 pm
Ooh, nice! I’m currently in the process of crafting Christmas ornaments so, wow, wouldn’t this Shimmer Mod Podge be fun to use on those?
October 12, 2010 at 2:01 pm
Shimmer Mod Podge would be great on paper beads and definitely for all kinds of Christmas decor! I’d love to try it!
October 12, 2010 at 2:01 pm
With the holidays coming up, a little shimmering MP is just the thing.
I go through gallons of the plain stuff – I’m surprised I don’t have this already.
October 12, 2010 at 2:05 pm
use the regular mod podge all the time – haven’t tried the shimmer yet. i can see using it on lots of my work – magnets, jewelry, notecards, canvas work – the possibilities are endless…
October 12, 2010 at 2:06 pm
I make Gourd Art and would definitely give the shimmer a workout on some gourds!! I bet it is just the thing I need for a little extra bling and shimmer.

Just found your blog! This is great!!! I have used a few different varieties of Mod Podge, but I haven’t used the shimmer yet. I might use some on one of these: http://adiamondinthestuff.blogspot.com/2010/10/decoupaged-stars.html Especially with the holidays coming, a little shimmer seems to fit well with Christmas!
October 12, 2010 at 2:31 pm
So cool! I have a bunch of gourds, real and fake, that would benefit from some Mod Podge!
October 12, 2010 at 2:44 pm
I would use the shimmer MP to start making Christmas decorations! It would be great on ornaments!
October 12, 2010 at 3:11 pm
I modpodged my initial to a plate one time–it turned out pretty cool. I’m thinking I might could use the Mod Podge Shimmer to do the same to a Christmas plate.
October 12, 2010 at 3:27 pm
Well, I thought I was going to be original and say Christmas ornaments but I read through the posts and saw that that’s actually quite popular! So even though I would use it for that, I have a Halloween sign that says Beware that I think could really use some of the silver shimmer! I’ve never used the shimmer but like most other people, I go through tons of the regular. Hope I win!!!
October 12, 2010 at 4:13 pm
I will use it on the pinecone wedding favors for my friend’s wedding this fall!
October 12, 2010 at 4:14 pm
I would use it to paint accents on decoupaged images and such. It looks like it would be fun to play with.
October 12, 2010 at 4:31 pm
I would use it for Thanksgiving decorations and some Christmas ornaments!
October 12, 2010 at 5:05 pm
OOOOO! The gold would be so pretty for fall decorations! And the silver for Christmas! I would probably try it on anything I get my hands on!
October 12, 2010 at 6:43 pm
I love modge podge! Lately I’ve been making monogrammed letters with paint and then a layer of decorative paper modge podged to the top. I would love the shimmer this new podge would give.
October 12, 2010 at 7:13 pm
Ok, I didn’t even know this shimmer Mod Podge existed! Wow…I think this could make for some fun crafting!
October 12, 2010 at 7:43 pm
I am so excited to use the gold on fall decorations!
October 12, 2010 at 8:02 pm
This would be perfect for holiday angel decorations, ornaments and gosh even I would look good with a little shimmer.
October 12, 2010 at 8:05 pm
I just found your blog. Sigh. I LOVE MOD PODGE. No lie, and I had no idea it came in shimmer! I would use it on all kinds of things! I was thinking about mod podging more fabric on another pair of shoes (I’ve already done it once) and I could see the shimmer being really fun with that.
October 13, 2010 at 12:16 am
Beside Christmas decor, it would be great to add some shinner to Thanksgiving center pieces!
October 13, 2010 at 3:11 am
I love those! Anything sprarkly makes me happy! And Modge Podge is my new love! I would love the silver for christmas ornaments!
October 13, 2010 at 3:55 am
I haven’t tried MP Shimmer yet….but with the holidays coming I’m off to the store to get me some. TFS.
October 13, 2010 at 3:58 am
Hmmm what would I use the MP Shimmer on? It’s probably best to list what I wouldn’t use it on…like, for example, the cat. Weelll, no guarantees – but I would try to contain myself. TRY. xx
October 13, 2010 at 4:18 am
I cant get ENOUGH of this stuff!
The more I see the more I use!
October 13, 2010 at 5:40 am
This stuff ROCKS! The places you can use the Shimmer are endless. I would start on some canvas paintings I am working on.
October 13, 2010 at 8:10 am
I haven’t used this product yet, but I can see toms of possibilities – Christmas ornaments & decorations, wedding decorations, card making, all kinds of things. Thanks for the review. I know what I’ll be getting on my next craft store trip.
October 13, 2010 at 9:58 am
I would use it on small pieces for the jewelry I make my nieces, and lots of other ideas.
October 13, 2010 at 10:07 am
I have placed an order and cannot wait to get it, I think I will be doing anything and everything including an old table for my daughters room. I cannot wait to see how it comes out!!

I would love to have Mod Podge Shimmer to use on some Christmas ornaments that could use a little shine. And I’m SURE I could think of other ways to use it!
October 13, 2010 at 4:41 pm
AHHHHHH. My local stores don’t carry the shimmer type! I suppose I’ll take it, you know, if no one else wants it…:)
October 13, 2010 at 6:36 pm
I am working on an album for my mom for her birthday and shimmer would work great on several pages. Great giveaway.
October 14, 2010 at 12:34 pm
I would use this for Christmas ornaments. I have a couple different ideas planned that I was planning to use regular Mod Podge for but this would be even better!
October 14, 2010 at 1:29 pm
Using it to paint pumpkins and gourds sound like an excellent craft!
October 14, 2010 at 7:16 pm
This seems like just the thing for cards, not too over the top, but enough to add a little zing to a card.
October 15, 2010 at 12:47 am
I’d use the shimmer on some paper mache constructions I’m making as wall hangings – I really like the idea of using it over something painted black!
October 15, 2010 at 4:36 am
I have way too many ideas for this! So I will say … something with paper, house decorations, and ????? Thanks for the giveaway!
October 15, 2010 at 4:47 am
This is awesome!! I would use this on cards and a few other crafty projects I have planned. THANKS for the chance
October 15, 2010 at 5:50 am
Now why didn’t I think to use MP shimmer as “paint” to add oomph to older scrapbook supplies. You know, the ones before the shimmery and glittery and dimensional stickers and papers? Those new papers are expensive, so I think getting the MP shimmer and applying it to supplies I already have will be very cost efficient!
October 15, 2010 at 6:18 am
would be great on jewelry 0r ANYTHING!
October 15, 2010 at 6:38 am
Makes me want to make some 3d stars
October 15, 2010 at 6:56 am
I would use the shimmer to make a cute initial sign for my daughter’s room.
October 15, 2010 at 8:27 am
I already use the clear shimmer with some magic wands that I make and sell. It gives them a nice bit of pizazz!

Ooooh, I love the Shimmer! It’s sooooo pretty! I’d love to try this on some wall decor for my little girls rooms!
October 15, 2010 at 9:06 pm
I would love to win this to craft with my niece. She’s only 6, and I’m slowly introducing her to the joys of crafting!
I would use the “smerkley” (her 4 year word for sparkly things) Mod Podge to create crafts with and for her.
Thank you for the opportunity!

Have you checked out the diy dish? They have some great ideas with photos on stone tiles that I have been wanting to try.
October 16, 2010 at 6:13 am
I’d use it on christmas crafts!
October 16, 2010 at 6:27 am
Love the special touches this added to your projects. I am really into the initials & numbers now and I’d use mine to accent those for my photo wall. Come to think of it these would be great on some picture frames too. Thanks for the detailed review.
October 16, 2010 at 9:05 am
thank you for such a precise review.. I am better informed now after reading this.
October 16, 2010 at 12:32 pm

I think I would use this in my scrapbooking….so pretty!
October 18, 2010 at 3:35 am
Perfect for the matchbox Advent Calendar I made last year!
October 18, 2010 at 4:15 am
Your video and samples are fabulous, thank you!
October 18, 2010 at 4:55 am
I think it would be really cute to trace my son’s hand print and then cut it out with different color card stock and stick them down (with Mod Podge, of course!) onto a canvas in a random pattern. I would use the Mod Podge Shimmer over some of the hand prints to make them shiny and stand out.
October 18, 2010 at 5:30 am
How cool! I wanna try it on my tiles (plaques) I make!! Make them shimmer!
October 18, 2010 at 9:19 am
I want to use it as both an accent paint and to make my notebooks shimmer! I would love to try it!
