3D Foam Adhesive Shapes from Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L

I ran across a bunch of great things at the Summer 2013 Create-N-Connect #CHAshow… and these little gems are one of them. Literally stopping me in my tracks, 3D Foam Adhesive Shapes from Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L are a great blend of form and function in a convenient package.

These foam sheets have adhesive on both sides, protected by release paper. However, instead of your simple dots or squares, these foam stickers have fun SHAPES… such as hearts, wings, flowers, snowflakes, stars, rectangles, even a mix of winter holiday images!

Here’s how they are described on the website:

Create custom embellishments with glitter, foils, embossing powder and more.
High-tack clear adhesive
Perfect for cards, scrapbooks and mixed media, great for school projects too!
Can even be heat embossed
Wear your adhesive on the outside and decorate with glitter, flocking, foils, embossing powder, etc.
Easy release liner

Now let’s take a closer look!

Shapes are cleanly die-cut through and through- nice sharp lines and edges, no dangling liner bits.

Very thin- only the thickness of a dime. You cold double them up if you wanted more dimension.

Now let’s swatch test. 3D Foam Shapes by Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L-swatch test

I was highly doubtful that it would actually take the heat from embossing. Consider me corrected! I embossed two different samples and while the release paper around it bubbled a bit, the adhesive and foam both withstood the heat gun. WOW!

I made you a video to show you both the swatches in better detail and some of my finished projects. Take a look:

Now, about that last tip. I DO recommend placing the 3D Foam Adhesive Shape on your project BEFORE you add your glitter, foil, etc. Take a look at this:

See those nicks? That’s where I used my paper-piercing awl to remove the release paper inside the shape while it was still in the full sheet. I think if you removed the sticker from the backing FIRST, then lifted the release paper up from the edge you’d get fewer (like no) nicks. Then the foil or powders would have a nicer, smoother surface. With the glitter and flocking it’s not such a big deal- but the smooth surface is imperative for the foils, chalks, and powders.

Now let’s take a closer look at my cards!

I really enjoyed these and I’m going to spend part of this weekend making some more cards with them- it’s SO easy to get that custom focal point!

Now, I looked online and Scrapbook Adhesives doesn’t have all of these listed on their website quite yet, but keep checking and ask for them at your LSS! (Read: I don’t have pricing info at this time.)

I’d love to hear your thoughts and comments, and I’m happy to answer any questions you might have about them.

OOOHHHH!!! One last thing. I’m going to pick  THREE commenters randomly next Friday and I’ll send EACH a pack of shapes to play with. : ) Deadline is August 30, 2013. So leave me a comment! : )

  4. Christy Kalbhin Says:

why did you use an awl to remove the paper? Is it difficult to remove or is that just a standard technique for you? I love that these are embossable!

  7. Meranda Says:

I like this idea. Kind of reminds me of the thickers you can put glitter on and decorate because they’re sticky. Sounds fun!

  8. Jenny Says:

Christy- because they shapes were still in the foam sheet, there wasn’t an easy way to peel the paper off. So I used an awl. My point was that if the shapes were already on your project it would be easier to lift off the corner and not mar the foam or adhesive.
