It was bound to happen. With all of the amazing glimmer-shimmer-spray-mists out there, someone had to come up with a fabulous canvas product to go with it. And thanks to Prima Marketing Inc, their Resistant Canvas pieces are an amazing compliment! There are a lot of options, but today I’m going to focus on the cutout embellishments.
Here’s how it was described on the Archiver’s Annex retail site:
PRIMA FLOWERS-Pixie Glen Collection. A paper-tale of pixies; sprites; tiny roses; and treasures; styled with a contemporary twist. Resistant canvas is ready to color with a variety of water- based coloring agents. This package includes twenty-two assorted resistant canvas pieces: 3/4×3/4 pieces up to 11-1/2×1 inch.
To tell the truth, it was hard to find a good description! So here’s mine. These are paper-backed canvas cut-out shapes that have resistant printing on them. When you apply mists, sprays, or even thinned paint, the printed area resists the ink, and a lighter design is revealed.
Here’s a closer photo of the smaller pieces I was working with- from the “LondonDerry” collection. (Which, by the way, wasn’t on the package. You can’t tell what the collections are called! Big fail, there.)
And here’s a little iPhone video to share some more info with you:
Here are my swatch tests, so you can see how the different media work on the Resistant Canvas embellishments.
BUT WAIT! You can also use non-misty things, too:
You can even thin out acrylic paints and use those, too. Get the idea? VERY FLEXIBLE!
Here are some tips/tricks to working with them:
- Do not attempt to remove the paper backing. It’s there to stabilize the weave of the canvas.
- It’s not sticky backed, anyway.
- Pieces will curl when wet.
- You can flatten them out under a phone book.
- Keep a paper towel or coffee filters handy to dab off excess to “reveal” the resist.
- Keep a misting bottle of water handy to help thin thick or opaque sprays to help them work better & let the resist shine through.
For a $5 USD price point, I’d certainly call them a “fave”- how about you?

Yes, I, too, noticed the lack of a “title” on the packaging – I had to have the clerk at the scrapbook store open the package for me to show me which designs were in the package before I bought them, because I wanted the winter-themed ones! A bit frustrating… But I’m looking forward to playing with them! Did you know that you can use the Tattered Angels Glaze, over part of the resist, then let it dry, and then use one of the other products over it…and it will have created it’s own resist? Kind of fun little tidbit. LOL I love resist!

BasicallyBareOnline.com and MayaRoad.com also have canvas products. They are both awesome choices too.
