A while back I reviewed the LetraSet ProMarkers as well as the AquaMarkers, and found them to be really good to have in the craft studio. The ProMarkers are alcohol-based, and come at a better price point than most. As you may recall, though, the marker has two nibs, on on each end- a bullet and a chisel. Today, I’m going to share with you the Ultra-Fine Nib that you can snap on to your existing marker to make it a fine-tip marker. (!) It’s an amazing way to extend your use of what you have, without buying another set!
Here’s how they are described on the website:
Add a unique third dimension to ProMarker, achieve ultra-fine lines in any ProMarker colour. Ideal for detailed illustration work, the Ultra-fine offers smooth, 100% consistent ink flow with no clogging or dry out. Attaching the nib is quick and mess free – simply clip into place over the existing ProMarker fine nib then wait a few seconds for ink to flow through.
Let’s take a closer look. The nibs come with a special cap so that you can tell them apart from the markers’ cap.
Now let’s compare the Ultra-Fine Nib to the regular bullet point nib.
As you can see, the Ultra-Fine Nib really is ULTRA FINE. It’s the perfect tip, in fact, for handwriting! I snapped on a nib and compared my writing between the three nibs.
Now this tells the tale, doesn’t it? Whereas the bullet tip might be too bold to add writing to a project, the Ultra-fine nib allows you to do just that. With your existing markers. Without buying a new set. How’s that for spreading your crafty dollar?
Now, what if you want to switch colors? Well, the nibs pop on and off easily, so it’s not like once you put it on they are installed for life. So I took of the Ultra-Fine Nib from the red, and put in on the green marker. Within seconds the red ink had leached out and the green came through.
And guess what? They work on the AquaMarkers, too!
So for me, this is a no-brainer. You get to extend the use of your markers, the cost is reasonable (1.99 pounds in English currency.) The big issue right now is finding a US supplier for them- my online searching yielded no results. Maybe we just need to ask stores that carry LetraSet to carry the Ultra-Fine Nibs, too!
Once they become more readily available, this little perk will really help push the LetraSet brand markers to the head of the pack and give Copics a run for thier money.
