I really like my Slice and the new Elite- which I reviewed yesterday-Â is even better. But to be honest, the Hands Free Kit for the Slice is a must-have accessory in my book. I know I wouldn’t use my Slice as much without it!
The Hands Free Kit consists of a large, 12X12 mat and a “collar” that fits over your Slice, Slice Elite, or Slice Fabrique. Here’s the blurb from the WhySlice.com website:
Get ready to use your Sliceâ„¢ hands-free! Simply place the collar over your Slice Cordless Digital Designerâ„¢ and you are ready to cut without having to hold the Sliceâ„¢ with your hands.
Powerful magnets built into the collar hold the Sliceâ„¢ in place while you cut, emboss or draw.
Our 12†x 12†high tempered glass with grid lines allow for precision cutting every time. Simply flip the mat over to emboss on the Slice™ 12†x 12†foam embossing mat.
So really, it’s a no-brainer. Slip the collar over your Slice until it snaps into place on the bottom. Prep your mat with adhesive- and GO!
Now instead of having to hold you Slice with two hands while it cuts, you can multitask and get something else done for a few minutes. For example, I was in the middle of a cut yesterday- using the Slice Elite without the Hands Free Kit- and the phone rang. I couldn’t let go of the machine without ruining my cut. But now, you can prep your next cut, get the phone, have a whatever. And it save just some fatigue on your hands, too- so if you have arthritis, lupus, or fibromyalgia, this kit will make the Slice a viable machine for you.
And if you like crafting with your kids, the Slice with the Hands-Free Kit is perfect- they can select the design & cut it, all without having to worry about little fingers or imperfect cuts. My 6 year old helped me make this:
Another great feature of the Hands-Free Kit is the 12X12 mat. I love being able to work on a large sheet of paper, and just have to move my Slice after each cut, and not have to keep repositioning my paper.
The Hands-Free Kit will work with any Slice machine, and retails from Making Memories for $49.99 USD- but I’ve seen it as low as $31 and change online. It’s available in Pink or Blue…and after doing a little research, I found that they also make a version with a 6X6 mat. (Personally, I’d still spring for the larger mat!)
I’ve really enjoyed using my Hands-Free Kit- (in fair disclosure, I received it as a Christmas gift from my family, but it was on my “wish list” of accessories. I’d certainly not hesitate to spend my money on it!
