Canvas Corp’s booth at CHA was one that made me do a double-take- I loved the natural fibers, the earthy palette, and of course BANNERS. I was super-excited to try some of their products out and share my results with you!
For those who have never heard of Canvas Corp, here is a bit of their history, taken from the website:
Canvas Corp was inspired in Summer of 2005 and founded in that Fall. The team studied interior design, packaging, colors and trends from around to create the Canvas Home Basics brand and product line. The final product line has been a result of the input from interior designers around the world, merchants and artists. Whatever your tastes, Canvas Home Basics has the details that fill the gaps in home decoration.
The website is still under construction so there is very little there right now- but they do have a great blog that showcases their products. While their foundation is in home decor/design- for example, they have a line of interior paints and floor plan guides, they have introduced a line of craft products that feature natural fibers and fabrics (canvas, jute burlap, paper, and denim) that are available as 12X12 sheets, die cut shapes, and stretched canvases.
They send me a nice selection of canvases, shapes, and papers to play with, including adhesive-backed cork! I couldn’t wait to see how they worked with my manual die-cutting machine.
Next, I played with some gesso and spray inks.
I really like the way the un-primed canvas took the inks, but maintained it’s texture. I also think working on an ivory surface (the natural color of the unbleached canvas) adds a lot to the earthy feel.
Now, I did want to add some layers and ink to the burlap shape. By the way, it’s 100% natural jute and it consists of 2 layers that are sewn together. The double layer gives it real substance, and the sewing keeps it from unraveling. Win!
I also have to note that I got a little crazy and used some spray inks on the adhesive-backed cork. How much do I love that it sinks in an tints the cork?? A. Lot.
After playing with the natural papers, I ended up with this Earth Day canvas.
Then I made a card using the 100% cotton paper as the background. I love it’s embossed texture and golden sheen:
Finally, I decided to dig into a scrap of embossed Core’Dinations cardstock and make this altered tag.
On the whole, I really like these papers- and one of the lines (which sadly I don’t have) is made of 100% recycled paper that is then printed. It’s a brown-and black and looks amazing. Maybe next time!
Anyhoo, this is a great company for my #GoGreen initiative- lots of natural, sustainable, recycled and recyclable stuff here! I think Canvas Corp is onto something, and I think you’ll enjoy the versatility of the products as much as I do. Want to buy some? They have a link here.
Oh, and check out their Facebook page, too!
Please leave a comment if you have any questions about what/how I made my samples, too!
