This year at CHA I noticed the trend of using stencils in paper crafting, home decor, and mixed media is still going strong. I picked up some samples to play with and got inspired! I am personally drawn to the geometrics, tribals, and city scapes. I even made a little video!

I misspoke about a few of those designs! WHOOPS! But here is a closer look a the stencil designs along with the correct designer’s name. (Sorry, Ronda- I love your designs!!)

First up are from Claudine Hellmuth (Ranger):

From Dian Reavely (Ranger):stencil6

From Handmade Charlotte (Plaid)stencil5 stencil4

Balzer Designs (The Crafters Workshop):stencil3 stencil2

Ronda Palazzari (The Crafter’s Workshop):stencil1I really see the trend of geometrics, cityscapes, tribals (including mandalas) and florals/birds still abound. What trends do you see? Which do you like best?

If you’d like to see a fun way to use your stencils as a rubbing plate, make sure you check out the video I made here.  While I was playing, I came up with a fresh stencil technique using Mod Podge Gloss as a resist. Check it out!

    Hi Jenny!

I am addicted to stencils – I have two folders full of them. I’m even making mine from files downloaded from the Silhouette shop and some of my Cricut cartridges.

    Have fun with yours!

Oh, I also love stencils. You can do so much with them. Carmen, what do you make your stencils on your Silhouette out of? I wanted to try to make them out of a plastic material to use over and over, but don’t know what to get.

    Carmen- I have both a Cameo and a Portrait to review…and I’m thinking STENCILS!! : )

Thanx for the video! It is great to see all of the newer stencils on one page. I LOVE them and cannot get enough. It is great that they are not just for painting anymore…Cannot wait to see your technique. TFS

    Hi,

Stencils have been around for a long, long time and now that they are popular in the Crafting world I don’t think they are going anywhere soon. The variety is amazing, have you seen Stencil Girls Designs, or Stewart Gill’s. More awesome stuff!

  8. Deborah Witmer Says:

Ok, so I will admit I have not played around much with stencils! I saw a video once that used a masking technique to create a layered effect and I really liked that; some day soon I’ll have to do some experimenting.

Love the stencils. I have been using the modeling pastes and enjoy them a lot. My new favorite is glass bead gel and yes it actually contains miniscule glass beads! Thin application through stencils look great on anything!!
