Market Tote from JoAnn’s

I was checking out my Sunday JoAnn’s circular when I noticed this Market Bag Tote and Coupon Holder. It’s promoted as a “green” alternative to plastic shopping bags, and it’s super-cute to boot. And I have enough fabric stashed away to make enough for every shopper in northeast Ohio. But I digress. Anyhoo, I dug up the pattern online and thought I’d share the joy.
Since I’m planning my weekend at the IX Center’s Sewing and Quilting Expo, I’ll need a nifty tote to stuff all of my purchases into. Maybe Nicole will get one, too, since she’s making the trip from Virginia to keep me company!
Now wouldn’t this be cute to:
- whip up for a baby shower, and fill it with goodies? (And skip all of that annoying wrapping paper!)
- make a kid a personalized library bag, and use a monogram initial on the front?
- keep in the car as a catch-all/garbage bag? (I could fill Nicole’s with snacks for her long trip home!)
Personally I intend to cut a piece of plastic canvas to place in the bottom to reinforce it. After I make the first one, I’ll decide if it needs some interfacing to help it keep it’s shape.
a PS: SuZ from my CPS group whipped out a few using some older Dec & novelty fabrics. Check them out, they are cute! She also sent me a link to Studio 259, where they have patterns for sale. One of them is just like the plastic grocery bags, but with a little pocket, so you can folk it up into a little pouch when you’re not using it- talk about saving room in the car! And it’s only $6.00, too- and since it’s an E-pattern, it’ll be downloaded to your computer using Adobe… no shipping and handling! (And now that I think of it, it’s saving paper….so it’s green all the way ’round!)
Lastly, Dacia Ray has a cute FREE tutorial on her blog on the totes that she makes. Take some time to see that one, too!

Hi Jenny,
Thanks for your comments on my blog. Just today I was thinking maybe I would actually try making a bag; this looks like a great pattern (with a nice coupon holder to boot).
