Craft Product Review- Radiant Rains by Luminarte
Perhaps you can tell that I like shimmer. And I like paint. And I’m a real sucker for shimmery paint. Ergo, I’m a mad fool for Luminarte’s Radiant Rain shimmering mist. Sold either in 4 oz spray bottles or daubers, these are basically liquid versions of their Twinkling H2O’s (the colors even coordinate.) What I like about the spray versions is that the colors are not hyper-saturated, but have some opacity to them. And when they dry, you get the […]
Twirled Paper- Quilling Kit Book Review
I had a request for a suggestion for a quilling resource, so I thought I’d share a book that I got a few years ago for Christmas that I really enjoyed. It’s by Klutz publishing, and it’s called “Twirled Paper” by Jacqueline Lee. I’m pretty sure it’s geared for the teen market- I found it at Michael’s in the kid’s kit section- but it’s suitable for adult beginners, too. It comes with a slew of qulling paper- 1/8 inch strips […]
Review: Stitch Simple Quilt Kits, part one
Just before the end of 2008, I was contacted by Jen Madsen of Stitch Simple, asking me to make and review one of their quilt kits. I had never heard of the company before, and was intriqued. Personalized quilt kits? The cutting is done? Hmmm. Sounded intriguing! {Note: I am not paid for my review, but they did comp me the quilt kit, in the spirit of full disclosure.} I took a look at Stitch Simple’s site, and decided that […]
Colbert Reports on Radical Lace and Subversive Knitting
OK, so I blogged about the Radical Lace and Subversive Knitting show in Scotsdale AZ months ago, but Stephen Colbert also did a piece regarding “renegade knitters….”- very funny! Enjoy! Wild Women Swaps Received
I got a package from the UK today containing my goodies from the Wild Women Swap I did on CPS. (To see the pins I made, click here.)Â So here are my swaps: The top one is a hand-woven piece, topped with a yo-yo and a polymer clay face from Diane the YarnGoddess… the “Red-Headed Wonder” (my name for her) didn’t come with info, so I don’t know who made her. I also got some postcards and an ATC from […]
Thanksgiving Give-Away: Origami Book (and resources, too!)
(((Please note: this item has been given away. Thanks for visiting, and read on, anyway!))) Well, I’ve got a little Thanksgiving give away for you: a book called “Fantastic Folds: Origami Projects” by Andrew Stoker. It’s chock-full of origami animals, boxes, envelopes, and other goodies. I was into making little gift boxes for a while, and now I’d like to pass on the crafty love. If you’d like it, just leave me a comment on this post, and on Friday […]
Wild Women Pins for CPS Swap
I’ve gotten back to the sewing machine- a little- and have made some pins for the ClothPaperStudio Yahoo Group swap. Our theme was “wild women pins,” but mine are more like sassy ladies. I started with my standard fiber fusion technique- layering batting, then fabric, and then sprinkling thread snippets, fabric scraps, yarns, and Angelina Fibers on top. I put down a layer of Solvy, then free-motion embroider on top to keep it all together. After dissolving the Solvy, I […]
Magic Glos Addendum
I decided to try out Lisa Pavelka’s Magic Glos today on a polymer clay pendant I’m working on. I spread out the material, being careful to use enough product so that the edges wouldn’t pull back. Happy with my progress, I set it under the UV lamp that I bought from her. I clicked on the light, which promptly burnt out. I had only used it twice- once at home for 10 minutes, and another time for a class– maybe […]
Cross Stitch for Breast Cancer Awareness
Well, October is here, and in the middle of planning my holiday crafting, I though I’d share a Breast Cancer Awareness craft. Since you have the whole month of October to craft pink, here’s a cute one to get you going! Our friends over at CrossStitch.com have supplied FOUR different versions of the pink ribbon to print out for FREE- two “easy” versions, and two (like the one shown at left) more advanced. Surf on over to get your free […]
Radical Lace and Subversive Knitting…
….is the name of a new exhibit in the Scottsdale, AZ Museum of Contemporary Art. I may be getting the chance to travel there next month, and I wanted to see what was shaking in S-town. I have no idea what else the exhibit holds, but this piece by Yoshiki Hishinuma (2005) is both beautiful and compelling. (I see orchids in this piece….) Just wanted to share! (And what radical or subversive crafting have YOU done lately??)
Planet June is Crafty!
And I mean that as the highest compliment… she took a normal, cheap-o electric toothbrush, and turned it into a detail sander for polymer clay. (Although it would be handy for any small, detailing job.) She went from this: to this: to this: How clever is that?? I need to get over to the dollar store ASAP… I’ve got some lentil beads that need sanding, and I’m thinking that this is just the ticket. Surf on over to see her […]
Product Review: Dremel Stylus for Crafting
I got a new favorite tool in my studio – it’s the Dremel Stylus rotary tool. I had a traditional Dremel, and used it when I had to. I found that it’s thick barrel made it difficult for me to hold and drill with accurately. The folks at Dremel seemed to have read my mind and felt my pain, because the new Stylus is just the ticket! First of all, it has a rechargeable battery, and it fits into a […]
Polymer Clay Video Review: Cindy Lietz
Cindy Lietz is a polymer clay artist and Craftista who has put together a series of polymer clay tutorials available by subscription. Since the PC world is smallish and fairly interconnected, she offered me the chance to view her tutorials (for free, for full disclosure) and write a review of what I saw. If you sign up for her newsletter, she’ll send you some freebie videos and you can get a taste of her style. I viewed a number of […]
Mokume Gane Workshop with Julie Picarello
Honey, I’m home! And I’ve brought back new pieces and techniques from my workshop with Julie Picarello at her lovely home studio in El Dorado, California. I’ll get more into details soon, but I just HAD to get some photos up ASAP of the work I produced, and my co-conspirators in class…. feast your eyes, details to follow! Created with Admarket’s flickrSLiDR.
New Class Samples – Mokume Gane
I’ve finally finished my samples for my June class…. right under the wire! I made a bunch of samples, actually, because for the first time class participants will get to decide what they are going to make. I’m offerening charms for jewelry or scrapbooking, candle embellishments, magnets, or pins. (This may not go over well. I’ve been told that people are more project-based, rather than process-based. This can be tough for me, because I want to teach folks the technique, […]
Yahoo Groups are Great for Crafters
Those of you have read this blog or my other, CraftTherapy, know that I belong to a number of Yahoo Groups. If you haven’t ever checked them out, you may want to consider seeking out some crafty sites that meet your interests. So here’s Yahoo Groups 101: visit their home page, and then type in your favorite craft into the search bar. Up will pop a list of existing groups that serve you interest. Naftali’s EZ Bead Changer Necklace- Fabulous!
I was surfing through some Etsy Polymer Clay artists’ sites, and I ran across a jewelry maker who goes by the name of Naftali. In addition to some lovely polymer clay beads and jewelry, she also sells these EZ Bead Changer necklaces. I bought one on Monday, and I was delighted to receive it on Friday afternoon. It came in a little organza pouch with a couple of Tootsie Rolls, and in box with ribbon. Nice presentation. I got the […]
