If your life is anything like mine, you constantly need little gifties to hand out. (Thankfully, it’s a small price to pay for someone else cooking dinner!) Anyhoo, I ran across this cute idea at CraftStylish and I’m going to get a-sewing so that I have a set of these for my Thanksgiving Hostess. (By the way, these are called coasters, but what they really are are little cozies for the foot of a wine glass. They are a great […]
Polymer Clay Resources
I had a lovely class last night at Grand River Beads, and we had a great group of 5 ladies making polymer clay beads for bangle bracelets. As usual, I was so “in the moment” that I forgot to take any photos! I did promise, however, to put some of my favorite resources up for polymer clay. If you are new to clay and need technical assistance, or just need some fresh inspiration, you might want to check out these […]
Wild Women Pins for CPS Swap
I’ve gotten back to the sewing machine- a little- and have made some pins for the ClothPaperStudio Yahoo Group swap. Our theme was “wild women pins,” but mine are more like sassy ladies. I started with my standard fiber fusion technique- layering batting, then fabric, and then sprinkling thread snippets, fabric scraps, yarns, and Angelina Fibers on top. I put down a layer of Solvy, then free-motion embroider on top to keep it all together. After dissolving the Solvy, I […]
Yo-Yo Handbag
You know I love my yo-yo’s…. so when I ran across this goodie at CraftStylish, I had to share it. I want one. The instructions include step-by-steps for making the bag, as well as how to make yo-yo’s. If you missed my review on the Clover Yo-Yo makers, you might want to check that out, as well. I’m gonna go start digging out my fabric scraps….
Fun Shrink Plastic Rings from CraftStylish
I have been known to enjoy the Shrinky-Dink goodness, so I was excited to see this project from CraftStylish bringing a new, fresh, and slightly more “mature” look to the craft. The cool frosted “beach glass” look is achieved by using Shrinky Dinks “Frosted Ruff ‘n’Ready” brand of shrink plastic. Step-by-step directions are included on the site, but the gist is to stamp your plastic, shrink it in the oven, and then carefully pick it up with tongs and wrap […]
More Breast Cancer Awareness Crafts: Pink Ribbon Pin
Ok, so here’s a quick and cute “pink ribbon” craft, using safety pins and seed beads. I know I have a million of these little buggers around, so I’m going to get busy. Surf on over to About.com’s family crafts, and you can get the full instructions. This is the basic grid…Â and I’m sorry I can’t share a finished product with you– couldn’t find an image of one completed on the internet, and I’m just getting started on mine. […]
Pink Ribbon Quilting for Breast Cancer Awarenss
So I’m on a kick here- I thought I’d share a link for a quilt block that features the “Pink Ribbon” which symbolizes breast cancer awareness. (Although you could substitute any color for pink that supports the cause of your choice.) Our friends over at Quilters’ Cache have provided a FREE quilt block pattern that includes- hallelujah- rotary cutting instructions. It looks like a complex block, but most of the pieces are pretty easy- just rectangles, squares, and a few […]
Cross Stitch for Breast Cancer Awareness
Well, October is here, and in the middle of planning my holiday crafting, I though I’d share a Breast Cancer Awareness craft. Since you have the whole month of October to craft pink, here’s a cute one to get you going! Our friends over at CrossStitch.com have supplied FOUR different versions of the pink ribbon to print out for FREE- two “easy” versions, and two (like the one shown at left) more advanced. Surf on over to get your free […]
Radical Lace and Subversive Knitting…
….is the name of a new exhibit in the Scottsdale, AZ Museum of Contemporary Art. I may be getting the chance to travel there next month, and I wanted to see what was shaking in S-town. I have no idea what else the exhibit holds, but this piece by Yoshiki Hishinuma (2005) is both beautiful and compelling. (I see orchids in this piece….) Just wanted to share! (And what radical or subversive crafting have YOU done lately??)
Great Tips on Folding Fabric
Ok, I got this one from Tipnut, but the woman in the video is Marilyn Bohn. She is an organizing maniac, and has several videos on YouTube on how to organize….well, everything. However, today I’m sharing the fabric folding video. It’s simple and easy, and there may be hope for my fabric stash yet…. [youtube rkTlaMqRlwo] I’ll be sharing more from Marilyn…. gotta get that craft room in order!
Pretty Little Things… from Sally Jean
Most of you know that I love, love, love Sally Jean…. her artwork is fun and whimsical, and her soldering is top-notch. I had a pretty good month in July, and I actually made some cash from teaching my craft classes. So I bought myself a little somthing pretty, of course! This is what she calls her “knockers” (har, har!)- two sides of an acrylic hemisphere with artwork captured inside. What’s fun about these is that you get to choose […]
New Class at Stitch Cleveland
Well, I’m a little behind in my sharing, but I wanted to let everyone know how excited I am to be offering a series of classes at Stitch Cleveland (actually in Lakewood) on surface design and fabric. I’ll be offering a class on stamping on fabric, first. We’ll cover ink pads, acrylic paints, and even color lifting using stamps. (I may even through in a crash course on Angelina fibers, too, just because they are so much fun to stamp […]
Planet June is Crafty!
And I mean that as the highest compliment… she took a normal, cheap-o electric toothbrush, and turned it into a detail sander for polymer clay. (Although it would be handy for any small, detailing job.) She went from this: to this: to this: How clever is that?? I need to get over to the dollar store ASAP… I’ve got some lentil beads that need sanding, and I’m thinking that this is just the ticket. Surf on over to see her […]
Support Crafters with Autism
I was buying some supplies on Etsy.com, and ran across this tidbit I HAD to share. I was buying game pieces from ImagineArt7.etsy.com, and I saw this link at the bottom. Apparently, she is the mom of two kids with Autism, and has opened an Etsy shop called BiggerDreams selling items made by young adults (18-22) with Autism. There are hairpins, lightswitch covers, barrettes and a couple of pendants up for sale for now. The money from the site goes […]
Hooray for Headbands and Heather Bailey
The weather here in NE Ohio has been sticky-hot this week, and my curly hair is getting on my nerves. I’m always up for a new hair gizzie (as they are affectionately called in my family) and Heather Bailey of www.HelloMyNameisHeather.com has a quick and FREE tutorial on making fabric headbands. Yay! She has a great blog, and designs the most scrummy fabrics. Totally cool. And the free tute also has multiple sizes so you and your tot can rock […]
Craft Triathalon!
I spent Saturday morning at Grand River Beads participating in the “Try-it-you’ll-like-it” weekend. I taught 3 classes in three hours…. and none of the materials overlapped! (Note to self: organize better!!!) I demo’d swirly beads, faux dichro glass, and paper beads. Lots of fun, and our participants were REALLY enthusiastic! Of course, I was a little swamped and trying desperately to stick to my 55-minute time schedule, so I didn’t get any photos. But I do have to say that […]
Mokume Gane Workshop with Julie Picarello
Honey, I’m home! And I’ve brought back new pieces and techniques from my workshop with Julie Picarello at her lovely home studio in El Dorado, California. I’ll get more into details soon, but I just HAD to get some photos up ASAP of the work I produced, and my co-conspirators in class…. feast your eyes, details to follow! Created with Admarket’s flickrSLiDR.
New Class Samples – Mokume Gane
I’ve finally finished my samples for my June class…. right under the wire! I made a bunch of samples, actually, because for the first time class participants will get to decide what they are going to make. I’m offerening charms for jewelry or scrapbooking, candle embellishments, magnets, or pins. (This may not go over well. I’ve been told that people are more project-based, rather than process-based. This can be tough for me, because I want to teach folks the technique, […]
New Yahoo Group – The Ohio Clayers
I’ve posted recently about yahoo groups that are good for Craftistas, and I belong to two active polymer clay groups. However, I’ve been dismayed that there are no local guilds or groups for polymer clayers. And since I teach mostly polymer clay in the Northeast Ohio area, well it was time to start my own group! I started Ohio Clayers (yes, that is a play on the rock band!) and it’s open to all. I hope that it will be […]
Yahoo Groups are Great for Crafters
Those of you have read this blog or my other, CraftTherapy, know that I belong to a number of Yahoo Groups. If you haven’t ever checked them out, you may want to consider seeking out some crafty sites that meet your interests. So here’s Yahoo Groups 101: visit their home page, and then type in your favorite craft into the search bar. Up will pop a list of existing groups that serve you interest. For example, I’m a polymer clay […]
