The week before CHA is always filled with sneak peaks from different companies and this was no exception for Ranger Ink and Tim Holtz. But Tim and Ranger had an extra sneaky peak for everyone… But we had to wait until Tuesday morning at CHA to actually see what the new big release was. We were so excited to see that Tim was debuting brand new distress glitter. These sparkly little beauties will be available in 24 colors in adorable […]
When picking out favorite booths on the show floor, I’m often drawn to over-the-top displays, vintage throwbacks, or eye-catching colors, but not this year. At CHA Summer 2013, I only had eyes for Bottle Cutting Inc. Nestled among the new exhibitors, Bottle Cutting Inc. wasn’t the flashiest or biggest booth at the show, but the intriguing products that I saw there kept me coming back again and again. An easy-to-use bottle cutter that makes perfect scores look effortless? Bottle top […]
As you walk the CHA show floor, a few things become apparent- certain trends are sticking around awhile. This may either delight or make you shake your head, but like it or hate it, these trends are here for at least another year. CHALKBOARD PAPER. Almost every holiday line I saw had some “chalkboard” element to it, and not just in grey. Cosmo Cricket had a blue chalkboard line, and Prima introduced both new papers and chalkboard flower embellishments. WOOD […]
As you saw in my CHA post, I swung by the I Love To Create booth a few times during the show. The lovely PattieWack- aka Pattie Wilkinson- was manning a make-and-take, creating stunning mixed-media necklaces. I sat down to make one myself, and she graciously said I could share the step-by-step with YOU, crafty reader! The secret to the necklace is…. WASHERS! You know, the metal ones from the home supply store. These ones were big- about 3 inches […]
One of the best parts of going to CHA is seeing all the new launches- and one of the coolest new lines I saw was the “Bravissimo” line from Making Memories. So just what is Bravissimo? It’s a line of partially-made and pre-made rosettes that can be used as greeting cards, home decor, gift embellishments, or gifts themselves! Someone took the time to realize that when you give a card, it often just ends up in the trash. But these […]
While at Winter CHA 2011, I was honored to be a “celebrity judge” at the Innovations Showcase. Out of hundreds of entries, only 20 were chosen to be up for the prestigious award. One of the nominees was the Perfect Crafting Pouch. Formerly known as the Perfect Printing Pouch, founder Amy Roziak developed the pouch as a way of ensuring even printing on Vellum. However, since it’s debut in 2003, creative crafters of all sorts have been using the pouch […]
Our favorite way Project Runway contestant EVER, Suede, has recently launched a new line of fashion patterns with Simplicity. Each of the three designs offer three different versions, so that the home sewist can customize the look. But don’t take my word for it, watch this video we shot at CHA Winter 2011: Make sure you follow Suede on Facebook and keep up with all his newest updates on SuedeSays.com!
As CHA was approaching, everyone was asking- what is Provocraft going to roll out for Winter 2011? This company has such a reputation for rolling out new-and-improved every six months, so I had to believe that there would be something up their sleeves. I had already seen the Yudu CardShop Machine, so I had a feeling there was another shoe yet to drop. And drop it did, on Friday night at the Cricut Gala! Ta-Da! In honor of the 5th […]
Thanks for leaving comments… yes, some of you are “GREEN” with envy…but…at least one of you will be seeing green in the near future. The winner of the Cricut Imagine sunglasses is…. LISA ANN! She said, Oooo, I would love to win the glasses! I am SO jealous that you got to go, got a goodie bag and most of all get an Imagine!!! How in the world to you score a gig like that? Hard work, passion ans a […]
I wrote this article for CraftsUnleashed, but I wanted to share it over here, too- because this is a trend that isn’t slowing down any time soon! What is “CHA”? It’s the Craft and Hobby Association trade show and it happens twice a year. I’ve just returned from the 2010 Summer show in Rosemont, Illinois, and I thought I’d share some of the trends I spotted. Following last year, BANNERS are still hot, hot, hot! Banners made of paper are […]
While visiting the ProvoCraft booth and checking out the Cricut Imagine (see my posts here and here), I got to take a peek at the newly redesigned Cuttlebug manual die-cutting machine. The biggest improvements to the design are a flip-up handle, sleeker design (a handle that can be used for transporting and stabilizing while cranking), and reportedly it’s also lighter. Don’t take my word for it, though- listen to the wonderful lilting tones of Maggie LaMarre, who is a ProvoCraft […]
So you probably saw my footage of the Cricut Imagine & video I posted of David Garibaldi, but I wanted to share with you what was actually IN our goody bag that we received as we walked out the door. You can’t imagine…. A cool tee-shirt, a full-content cartridge (I got Happy Hauntings), a pair of “Imagine” sunglasses…and…. A GOLDEN TICKET! Ok, not really. No Willy Wonka here…but it’s a certificate for a Cricut Imagine when it’s released in September. […]
It was another fun-filled day here at CHA Summer in the lovely (if humid) Rosemont, Ill. So here are the highlights of my day in pictures: So that’s the overview for today! I realized that I spend most of my time today at booths looking/trying/talking about DIES! Guess what we’ll talk about tomorrow??
One of the things I really admire about Provocraft is their releases of new products (such as the Cricut Imagine!) For example, they have teams of folks on the show floor just waiting to give your a personalized tour. I had some time and taped part of my “tour” for you- after all, the Imagine both prints AND cuts, and there are a lot of cool functions to this machine. Here’s PART of what I got- YouTube will only allow […]
Oh, such a crazy busy day here at CHA– and there is so much to talk about!! But after a long day on the show floor, I thought I’d just share the pics I took to start with. These were the highlights of my day! OK, that’s all for right now, crafty friends! More fun tomorrow!
If you are a die-hard Cricut fan, (or a cake decorator), buckle your seat belt- the Cricut Cake is here! (Well, almost- it’ll drop in late April.) But the excitement at CHA was palpable and the screaming non-stop from the ProvoCraft booth. The Cricut Cake will cut fondant, gum paste, sheet icing, even fruit leathers. But instead of me explaining it, watch this video from John Lee of ProvoCraft: I’ll be receiving one of these wonders sometime in late May, […]
The show is starting to draw to a close, and even though I’ve grown a blister on my toe the size of a cherry, I’m still having a great time. Here are a few pics from today’s adventures: This last one pretty much sums up how much fun I’m having!!!
I LOVE CraftCritique.com– it’s such great site for news and reviews on all things crafty. (Ok, and I write for them, too, but really I’m not biased.) If you are at ALL interested, you should click on over and read all the updates. Since I’ve been here, I specifically have written articles on Ice Resin (non-toxic 2 part epoxy), Viva-Decor’s Precious Metal Paints, and Carol Duvall. Go check out their coverage- you’ll be glad you did!
What I love, love, LOVE about the CHA tradeshows is that you get to meet and interact with the most amazing artists and designers. Folks that you usually see on television or on the craft product boxes and are there, in person, to answer questions and show off their stuff. Overwhelmingly, these demi-celebrities are….wait for it……nice. Really nice. Like real people. Who knew? I’ve been able to chat up some of my favorite designers and even get a few pics. […]
Here on the floor on day ONE of the trade show. I’m loving the Precoius Metal Color paints- so creamy and rich! Look at the cool sample bangles, too.
