Last year I shared with you my BTS CHA 2014: Behind the Scenes with Vicki post from CHA and I thought I would do the same this year. It’s fun to go to CHA as a designer member and as a member of the media for Craft Test Dummies. I get to attend lots of great functions and chat with some amazingly creative people. The first event I attended was on Friday evening and it was the “Designer Sneak […]

Time for the Simon Says Stamp February Card Kit, peeps! And I made SIX Valentine’s Day/ Love cards in one go. By the way, I’ve decided I like Simon Says Stamp so much, I’ve become and affiliate partner and you can use THIS LINK to buy! Thank you! Not gonna lie…this month I struggled with the card kit. The vintage colors felt a bit washed out to me, and I couldn’t quite feel the gold Gelato with clear embossing ink. While […]
The other day my crafty BFF Vicki O’Dell and I met for lunch and retail therapy. Here’s the video of my craft haul- all those goodies for under $50! I got all of these goodies for under $50! What should I play with first?
I reported that at CHA 2015 foil accents one of the big trends– so the big question is, “how do I get foil on my projects?” Well, I’ve go a handy list of ways right here for you. First, a word on foils! We are specifically talking about mylar-backed foils or transfer foils for these techniques. We are not using metal leafing or flakes. If you need a refresher, take a look at my post about Metal Leafing, Foils, and […]
Last week I posted a review on the Staz-ON solvent-based stamp pads, and based on the comments I received, it seems that there are a bunch of folks who purchased it to use with their Copic or other alcohol-based markers…and then were sadly disappointed when I shared that they were, by and large, not compatible. This prompted me to really question which stamp pads were compatible with alcohol markers. In true CraftTestDummies fashion, I tested ten stamp pads and six […]
Going the the Craft and Hobby Mega Show is a must, not just to drool at the new product releases for 2015, but also to spot trends and colors that will be must-haves for crafting and home decor. Wanna peek? I made you a video: But just to recap….. FOILS: The trend of shimmer and shine extends from home decor to paper crafting to fashion. There is even a new foiling machine from Heidi Swapp called the Minc! Foiling is […]
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again- a solvent-based stamp pad is a must-have for any crafters’ tool box. It will do what most stamp pads won’t- become permanent on non-porous surfaces. Today we’ll take a look at Staz-On, their new midi size stamp pads, the new colors, and even some tips for stamping and reinking! First, here’s how they are described on the website: Product Overview StazOn inkpads are the industry leader in multi-surface stamping; StazOn’s highly […]
Ever have difficulty cutting through certain materials while using your thin-rule dies like Framelits or Thinlits? Well, Sizzix has come up with a new metal base plate that allows you to cut more precisely and cleanly! Take a look: And don’t those new deco sheets look fun as well?? The Precision Base Plate will be available in March, and we are hoping to have one at CTD to give a full review then.
Today was my 2nd day on the show floor. I concentrated on scoping out fashion brands and products for new things and people to work with. It was a crazy day of talking and walking. I saw more things than one post can contain, but I’ll share some highlights. I might go into depth in later posts. The day started with touring the Plaid booth with various designers and people. They have a chalky finish line complete with wax, antiquing […]
The second best thing about going to the Craft and Hobby Association Trade show every January is seeing all of the new products being released. Of course the best part is leaving the snow and cold and going to Anaheim for a few days. There are several new products being released soon that we here at team CTD thought you would want to know about. Check out this list of videos I shot during the show. CHA Show 2015 […]
Hey crafty friends! I’m so excited to share that the TV show that I filmed last summer, “Hands On Crafts for Kids” is now airing! This show has a long history- it’s been on PBS for 18 years! I’m so thrilled to join Katie Hacker and Franz Spohn as your hosts. In case you don’t know, this program is geared towards kids 7-12; but a lot of the projects can be adapted for younger or older crafters. Check your local […]
Spellbinders is again expanding their line of papercrafting into mixed media and home decor with new dies, embossing folders, and now…… rhinestones and trims! I was invited to the media breakfast and snapped these pics and video for you. I’m hoping we’ll get some of these goodies to review for you, too! You just never know what you will find at the CHA show. Giant elephants, life size hot air balloons or a full scale knitted or crochet version of The Chronicles of Narnia. Or in this case YARNIA. The folks at Spinrite (the makers of Patons, Bernat, Caron and Lily Sugar n’ Cream) went all out with this booth. While I read all seven books to my sons when they were younger I can’t remember the name of this […]
Technically this is my 2nd day at CHA, but the 1st on the show floor. Yesterday, I traveled from Richmond, CA to Atlanta, GA, to Los Angeles, CA, to Anaheim, CA. It was a long day of traveling, but I was happy to arrive in sunny California to see new products, companies and long time friends. After I got checked in, Jenny and Vicki took me to get our show badges. Sara arrived, and we went to the Hot 20 […]
Hello crafters! Today I wanted to show you the six new colors of Dylusions ink sprays! There were already 18 colors from the Dylusions line so these new six make 24 total. New to Dylusions? Check out this review by Jenny and learn the basics about these awesome sprays. I am a huge fan of Dylusions sprays because their bright, poppy colors and hues jump off the page! The new colors are chopped pesto, slate grey, pomegranate seed, tangerine dream, […]

As a quilter and crafter, I’ve tried the more traditional ways to stabilize my fabrics – using spray starch and using Best Press. So, when I was asked to try out Terial Magic, I wasn’t sure how excited I would be. Spoiler alert: I was VERY excited! Terial Magic is a liquid that comes in a spray bottle. It works a little different than starch or best press. You spray it on your fabric, wring out the fabric, allow it […]
I’m not a big resolution-maker; as a former music therapist, I’ve been trained to make short term or long term goals with measurable and observable data. But I do like the idea of taking stock and re-evaluating my life’s mission statement. And on our long drive to NYC last week, I had a lot of time to think. I’m always rushing from one task to another, from one event to another, and sometimes it feels like it’s all just washing […]
Mod Podge Furniture is a new formula in a line of recent releases. It comes in three finishes, gloss, matte, and satin. It can be used to decoupage and seal decorations (paper and fabric) onto furniture pieces. It can be applied in the same way as other Mod Podge formulas, but must cure for 4 weeks before the furniture piece can be regularly used. For this review, I’m going to compare the different finishes to those of the general use […]
Earlier this week I shared the Top Ten Posts of 2014– it’s good to go back and see what resonated with my crafty peeps, as it helps me to plan for this year’s content. Similarly, I want to go over the top VIDEOS- YouTube is a slightly different crowd with different habits, and it’s time to see what was popular there. Let’s go…. Here they are in order! #1 Video of the Year: Fishtail Bracelet -No Loom Needed All you need is a […]
