There are so many mists and sprays these days out on the market and each and every one of them seem to be different and special in their own way. I am a bit of a spray, “hoarder” too, they’re just so much fun, versatile and I consider them a good tool to have in your crafty arsenal. Enter in the glitter mists by Art-C. According to the website, “Art-C glitter mists can be applied to any surface and blended […]
I’m not sure if this product really fits into the “craft product” category- but it’s certainly a creative product that crafty folk will enjoy. Let me introduce you to the Swaggerdoodle collage frame. The idea is deceptively simple- it’s a collage frame that opens from the FRONT- the sides of the frame are actually on hinges- so it’s super easy to load. And instead of having to tape photos in place, you can put them almost anywhere on […]
I like a challenge. And every now and then, I mark off some time in my schedule to participate in some swaps that get my creative juices flowing. I’ve taken to making tags, and when video went up on Joggles.com about making tag BOOKS, well….. I was in. I used a bunch of my mixed-media tags for the pages, and made fabric covers and bindings. But it’s just easier to show you….so I recorded these two videos of my completed […]
Well, this week was certainly….interesting. It started on SUNDAY with a trip to the Emergency Room. Contrary to logic, I did not suffer a crafting accident. Instead, it was a sad mishap involving a very sharp ceramic knife and an avocado. Public Service Announcement: If you are trying to pit an avocado with a knife, please place your non-dominant hand on your HEAD. Do not attempt to hold said avocado while you pit it. Thank you. I’ll spare you photo […]

For the Christian community, the next 40 days leading up to Easter are a sacred time- I time to reflect, grow, and recommit to God and spiritual practice. For me, Lent is a time not of deprivation, but of random joy. I choose to interpret Lent as a season in which I can spread kindness and the essence of “Christian values” by the things that I DO. And if you know me, crafting is what I do. So why not […]
Margot Potter is one of those crafty rock star personalities who are big on personality AND talent. I met her at the Summer CHA Show in July of last year (2010) when she was promoting her newest book (which I’m sure to be reviewing in the not to distant future!) The Impatient Beader Gets Inspired by Margot Potter  A few things you might want to know about this book: Soft cover 127 pages The Impatient Beader has 6 major […]
I’ve known Stacy Rich, the creative mind of StacyStamps for well unto 15 years now. She was the co-founder and previous owner of Stamplistic, THE place to go for stamping/scrapbooking/mixed media supplies as well as the leader of many great classes. Along the way, Stacy started designing rubber stamps- her trademark is that most of them are triangular- but recently, she’s come up with a design so deceptively simple that it’s blowing my mind. Meet her new line, Design Elements! […]

I love to make handmade cards and embellished tags. Sometimes they need just a little “special decoration”- and Design Adhesives can do the trick! These clear “rub-on” type stickers allow you to put a little design almost anywhere, but then customize it with your own glitter, flocking, chalks, even embossing powder! Here’s how they are described on the website: Create beautiful projects, cards and pages in seconds with these double-sided patterned adhesives. Perfect for use with embossing powder, glitter, foil, […]
Did you know that I’m on Twitter? Yup, it’s true! My “handle” is @CraftTestDummy, and I’ve just reached a great milestone- over 6,000 Twitter followers. (Actually, 6,031 as of right now. And if you’ll allow me to brag for a moment, includes Martha Stewart! So to mark the occasion, I’m having a giveaway! I recently won a prize pack from Plaid because I entered and won in their Holiday Craft Contest, by submitting this project using Martha Stewart Paints, Stencils, […]
To a novice or newbie crafter, alcohol-based inks can be a little perplexing. I’m happy to share Pinata Inks by Jacquard and hopefully both de-mystify what this inks are and why they can be so versatile in your crafting supply box! Let’s start with a little information from the Jaquard website: Beautiful, highly saturated and acid-free transparent colors. Piñata inks are alcohol-based, indelible and moisture resistant when dry. They can be used on most any clean surface. Techniques: rubber stamping, […]
It’s hard to believe that February is already half over. This week at CTD WHQ we are wrapped up our CHA Winter 2012 show coverage and started getting in new samples to review. You are going to LOVE some of the reviews we have coming up! But in the meanwhile, here are this weeks posts, just in case you missed them. CHA Coverage: Sara shared her “Top Picks”, including photos from Heidi Swapp, Tim Holtz’ new Distress Markers, and Lawn […]
So, this is new to me: my kids celebrate the first 100 days of school. (We didn’t do this back in the day.) As a result, my first grader was required to bring in 100 items- anything, really- and display them for the class. The purpose is counting, I suppose. But I saw this as a crafter-tunity to use up some beads AND get my daughter making art! Since I recently thinned out my beading stash (yes, I am a […]
With so much to look at and experience at CHA this year, it was really difficult to pick out just a few of my favorite products. I sat and debated and crossed a few off of my list. But when it came down to it, I chose the ones that really made me go, “WOW” and the ones that I knew I wasn’t going to be able to live without. These were the ones where when I saw them for […]
Team Craft Test Dummies showed up at the recent Winter CHA show en force. We had four reporters as well as “mama” Craft Test Dummy herself. We all had a great time, laughed like crazy people and learned TONS! While most of Team CTD goes to the show with a Media badge I am the only team member who is registered on my own as a CHA Designer Member. In order to become a CHA Designer Member you need […]
If you recall, Megan Elizabeth rocked the paper crafting world last year when she introduced Paper Layerz– coordinated color blocked paper that is specially engineered to work beautifully with die-cutting machines. This year Megan is upping her game by adding super-juicy pigment stamp pads, foam adhesives, and embellishments to her line. Lucky for us, she took a moment to share them with us! We’ll have full reviews coming soon!
Looking for a way to use your manual dies without all of that cranking? The eBosser by Craftwell is the new kid on that particular block, and it’s got a nice price tag AND multiple safety features. We’ll have a more in-depth article soon, but in the meanwhile, check out the demonstration I recorded at CHA Winter 2012: ….and YES, it cuts all the dies and embossing folders on the market! Whoo-hoo!
My son has been learning to fold Origami at school this year, and he came up with this idea for his class Valentine’s all on his own. He’s made folded hearts with a little note tucked inside, and a foil-wrapped chocolate candy attached to the outside as an embellishment. To make each Valentine, you’ll need: a piece of scrapbooking paper, cut to 6 inches X 6 inches 3 glue dot-style adhesives (I used the Aleene’s dry adhesives) 1 foil-wrapped candy […]
