This post originally was written for and was posted on CraftCritique.com. I have a love/hate relationship with craft blades. Every crafter needs one- or a few- but sometimes they are tricky to work with. Either they are uncomfortable to hold, or it’s difficult to change the blade without nicking yourself, or they are just unwieldy it’s hard to make delicate cuts. And I have to admit, the only swivel blade I’ve ever owned is languishing in the bottom of a […]
Archives for May 2010
One of my jobs as the editor of CraftsUnleashed.com was to assemble a top-notch design team. That means I have to find crafty bloggers who are 1) good a making crafty stuff and 2) want to make stuff out of the items sold at ConsumerCrafts.com. Recently, I put out an open call for designers and got about 20 applicants. Unfortunately, SO MANY were just not a good fit. So I thought I’d give you all some handy pointers so that […]
I’ve tried quilling once before, when I bought & reviewed the “Twirled Paper” kit by Klutz Publications. However, when I was at CHA in Anaheim (2010) I was blown away by the display at the Quilled Creations booth. Take a peek: I opened this cute purple box and was really happy with the tools inside. You get: Slotted quilling tool Needle quilling tool Circle sizer Quilling papers Elmer’s brand glue 2 white tags and 2 card templates Instruction book… and […]
Thanks to all of you who commented on Monday’s post about the Viva Decor Pearl Pens. There were 16 comments, and Random.org selected lucky #6- RACHAEL!! Congrats, Rachael, and I’ll be sending out your Pearl Pens ASAP!
Remember last January when I told you the big, new trend was jewelry? (Read that post here.) Well, honey, I hate to say I told you so….but….guess what I saw at Target last week?? Yup! There it is! I noticed waaaaay fewer rubber stamps things of that nature, and this display was about 6 ft. wide. Now, this is what I saw in Fairview, Ohio…so what do you see at YOUR Target Store?
I use Mod Podge for a lot of my projects. A LOT. But there are some projects that need that extra “pop” of a raised glaze, or to fill a bezel. Enter Mod Podge Dimensional Magic by Plaid. Now, back in the day, I was addicted to a glaze product by Plaid called Royal Coat Dimensional Magic…but sadly, it was discontinued. I used in on bottle caps and ATC’s, altered dominoes and faux dichroic glass. (I bought up every bottle […]
Yea! I wrote up a review of these fun, dimensional Pearl Pens by Viva Decor, and it’s up on CraftCritque.com today. So here’s the deal: go on over and read my review and then come on back hear to leave me a comment on what you thought. I’ll select one comment at random and that crafty gal will win THREE of the pens to try out for themselves! I’ll pull the name on Friday, May 21st around noon EST. I’ll […]
If you’ve been with me for a while, you know that I’m a fan of Eco Green Crafts (read my first report of this new company here.) Subsequently, I did a review of their acrylic paints and found them sublime. So when I got an email from them offering to share some recycled crafts and a coupon code, I didn’t hesitate at all. First, let me share the idea- for spring, they are featuring projects made from paper bags. Who […]
I recently was contacted by Sandy Sandler of Bowdabra fame, asking me to share a contest with my “network of crafters.” (Don’t look around. That’s YOU, crafty reader!) Over on her non-profit website, C4K555.org, she’s got a call for PET crafts…crafts you make for your pet. They need to be quick & easy and under 5 bucks. And you need to submit a YouTube video that’s about 2 minutes. The winner will get promotion as Sandy does her nation-wide media […]
I love CraftCritique– I really do! I met Sarah Moore, the founder, about a year ago and I can’t tell you how much her support has helped me in my quest as a Craft Evangelist! I write for them about twice a month, and occasionally I submit a project for their “blog carnivals.” This year, for the Mother’s Day Blog Carnival I submitted an old project- felt needle cases that any mom would love to tuck into her purse or […]
So, my “Stamped Resin Bangles” went up on CraftsUnleashed.com yesterday, and I was pretty pleased with the results. It’s a stamped-and-painted paper strip that’s then decoupaged into the resin form that comes from ConsumerCrafts.com. (See the full tutorial HERE.) Of course, when you are designing crafts for an international craft-supply company, you use only what they carry, right? However, after I created the craft using their products, I started rummaging around my studio for other ways to trick out these […]
Notice anything funny about this post title?? Yeah, it’s about my FB giveaway. Except it’s not on Facebook. Apparently Facebook can be real stinkers, and they don’t want you to be giving things away to YOUR friends and/or YOUR fans through THEIR site. (Um, huh?) For example: (And this is directly from the Promotions Guidelines page) You cannot: Condition entry in the promotion upon a user providing content on Facebook, such as making a post on a profile or Page, […]
So, for the longest time I had a Ning community associated with this blog. When I first set it up, I was advised that it was a great forum to set up for the sharing of photos, ideas, and resources. I had been only familiar with Yahoo Groups, but we went ahead and set it up, anyway. Fast forward two years. I now have 659 members. Wait, before you get too excited about that, you need to know that 90% […]
Thanks to all of you who left a comment on last weeks post introducing Lisa Falduto’s new business venture, Paper Fashions Boutique! In case you missed it, it’s an altered art kit club. She’s putting together awesome kits with great materials, easy-to-follow instructions, and at a great price point, too. What you’ll really love is that it’s available month-by-month; which means you’ll only buy the kit YOU want. (But trust me, you’ll want them all!!!) We had 39 responses, and […]
